Exclamation Running into problems

ok, heres the problem i have a 92 blazer that i've owned for about a year now, she runs great, well atleast up until last april, i'm convinced my tranny has gone bad.. before i wrote this i was driving to work, i passed over on the right of grandma, and i was doing around 70mph.. my truck started smoking from the back, i know that it's the transmission, because it isn't the first time she started smokin on me, now the only question i need answered is.. how should i go among fixing my problem?.. some of my friends say that the job to fix the tranny is about 1 grand or so.. which is kinda way off my budget.. does anyone know a way i could get around this? any cheap ways?
