how do i reconize z85

How do I visualy tell the difference between z71 and z85. I just bought a 4x4 colorado 3500 vortec and was told it was z71, but I can't verify that. If anyone knows, it would be a big help.

Thanks,

not the best at the trim types, but i thought Z-71 was for full size pickups only....and the Z-85 was the comperable type of off-road susp. for the colorado. please correct me if i am wrong, but like i said, not the best at trim types.

Z85 is the base model package. All of the Z71 models I have seen are labeled Z71 on the quarter panel. Hoewver this doesn't mean all are badged that way.

Thanks,
Z71 usually has the wider fender flares. Best way to tell is look at your SPID tag I believe it is in the glovebox and look for Z71 or Z85 in the list.

The build sheet (sticker) in the glove compartment has ALL the build codes for your particular truck listed in alphabetical order.

It will state whether your truck is a Z85 or Z71.....probably in the second row of codes from the bottom. Every one of those codes means something unique to your truck, such as axle ratios to the type of radio.

Re: how do i reconize z85

if you bought it new then the z71 would sit a couple inches higher than the z85. the z71 is an off road package, larger tires etc. just because it doesn't say z71 doesn't mean that it isn't. Z85 is your basic suspension package. Z71 usually have fender flares and larger tires.
