Re: towing with a cavalier

if you have an automatic transmission, and do it just once or twice, i wouldnt worry a bit, regardless of which 2.2 you have

550 lbs is like having 3 passengers

Re: towing with a cavalier

Check the owner's manual. Some small cars say not to tow anything. 550 lbs is not that much but add 300 lbs or more for the weight of the trailer and now you are talking a bit of a load for a 2.2.

Re: towing with a cavalier

towing has nothing, well very little, to do w/ the engine. its all about the frame and the rear suspension. if a cavalier can hold 3 300 plus pound ppl, than it can def. tow a snowmobile. my step dads 00 accord could pull 2 easily and its only a 2.3. a 2.2 has plenty of power just dont overload it.

Re: towing with a cavalier

There was a thread awhile back about a guy that wanted to know about towing 2 bikes with his cavy. As long as you dont drive like an idiot with the trailor and sled on the back you should be ok.

Re: towing with a cavalier

if you drive like an idiot while towing, you'll need a new transmission within a year. The previous owners of my car did that, which left me with transmission that slipped in first and second gear. Eventually it got so bad, i was driving down the highway in only first gear. I then had to replace it.
