used turbo kit or crappy brand?

I really really really want to boost this new (or used, whichever way you want to look at it) EG hatch I just bought that came with an LS/Vtec motor already installed but I don't want to go and spend $3000 F**king dollars just yet just for the kit. So I had an idea. I can either go and find a used kit in good condition or an off the wall brand, either way for less than a grand and then when the turbo gives just swap it out for a brand new, larger and better quality turbo. Because after all, it probably doesn't matter too much about all the piping and hardware, right? Maybe just stuff like BOV's and engine management I would have to invest in. Nobody ever suggested any of this to me, I just thought of it on my own so I was wondering if it might work. Does anybody have any suggestions or comments? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: used turbo kit or crappy brand?

Thanks, but what exactly would you recommend? Can you give some specific examples. Would a kit from Greddy be good or should I invest in a Turbonetics setup? Thanks for the help.

Re: used turbo kit or crappy brand?

Thanks for the advice. Yeah so supposedly this LS/Vtec has been ported and polished and upgraded with a type r valve train fitted in a GSR head. Since I did buy it from a friend I am leaning towards taking his word for it.

Re: used turbo kit or crappy brand?

if you piece a kit together, you'll make a lot more reliable power for less money than if you were to buy a kit.

99% of kits that people buy are total shit....there are exceptions like the PeakBoost and FullRace kits....they are expensive, but amazing. Greddy kits are garbage because its OVERPRICED and wont make shit for power. The Turbonetics kit is better, but not by much....

check out www.honda-tech.com become a member, read things about boosting your car and once you've been on for a while, you'll have access to the MarketPlace. That is where you will find the good deals on parts....
