626 Turbo kitblk626T 08-28-2002, 10:31 PM Im going to buy a turbo kit for my 93 626 but am kinda worried about my mileage. I have 160,000 miles on the engine, but it runs with no problems. It has been well maintainted. Im only going to be running 6 or 7 Psi on the turbo. Should I just replace the engine or upgrade internals to Jspec (pistons, rods, exhuast manifold, etc). Or will my engine be fine running it at 7psi? Moppie 08-29-2002, 12:06 AM Upgrading to Japanese internals will do nothing. They will be exactly the same as the ones in your car, or possible give a higher CR, which you dont want. But they will not be stronger. Finding some Pistons from an Austalian 626 Turbo will most likely give you a lowe CR, and more strength. But good luck finding them. 160,000miles is a long way for a car to travel, and it quite likely that there will be enough ring and bore wear that adding even 6psi of boost may cause something to let go, or the engine to smoke excessivly. If you can afford it then deffintly get your engine rebuilt. Throwing in another 2nd hand engine will achieve nothing, as your simply replacing one old high millage engine with another. If you only ever plan on running 6-7psi then stock internals will do, but you be able to find performance rings or harder bearings etc. Talk to who ever does any machine work about what you plan. If you want to run more than 6psi then now is the time to buy and fit stronger low CR pistons and rods etc. If you cant afford a complete engine rebuild then you can just slap the turbo on and hope. I would say the chance it will smoke or blow something is about the same as the chance you won't have any problems, and save your self the cost of a rebuild. workn626 12-12-2003, 10:48 AM blk626T, where did you get the info about your turbo kit? is your 626 the 2.5L or the 2.0?
