Tow Hitch Bike rack
I'm in the market for one, preferably a 4-bike model. There are a boatload of them out there... Any recommendations?

Yeah, Yakima makes an awesome one that works great! It is pricey though. I got a cheapo from walmart myself and it works alright but its dying and Ill have to get the Yakima "Roc" one. You can get them at REI.com or at an REI store (just dont expect decent service unless you are wearing hemp and the granola is still around your mouth).

Yeah, the Roc N' Gate is the one I have. It allows you to swing the bikes out so you can open the back door. The other Yak rack I like is the Hitch Fork. I just like how the bikes connect to that so much better than anything else. It is like a roof rack off your hitch.
Cheers.

G.I. Joes also carries Yakima racks. You can pick up some motor oil and ammo if you want decent service.

Yeah, I got pretty lucky and found mine used at an REI garage sell for $30!! I was pretty happy with that find. Now if I could just a deal like that on an SLR 3 Pack AAL System, I would be a perpetual good mood.

Thule also offers a 4 bike hitch mount that can swing out allowing access to the hatch...It works sort of like an accordian. It's a little less expensive than the yakima. Thule stuff is also at REI, so you can compare them side by side.
If you time it right REI puts that stuff on sale once a year at 30% off,... but when you want it, you want it now.

Thanks for the feedback. I went to REI in person and opted for the Roc'nGate. I had to do a little grinding to get the "Quick Wrench" thing to fit but it looks to be a pretty good rack. I'm happy. I just wish the locks would lock outomatically (without the key). Oh well, cant have everything.

Glad to hear it. REI sold me a "special return" one that they swore up and down was perfect. I was going to buy a new one because I had to have a rack for a run the next day but the salesman insisted this was the "smart choice". I ended up taking it back and having to get one from Walmart. Mounting hardware was bent or missing. REI wasted my time and the service was superbly pathetic. The cheapo from walmart will do me for now.... A messy store but a hell of a lot less pretentious.

I use SEARS Tow Hitch Bike rack, it fits in the 2" Reese hitch I installed in Xterra.
For about $150.00 it's really not a bad deal. Take a look at it's contruction and compare it to a Yakima. Yakima's is better but the price difference really makes a difference.

Melt, what kinda ride do you have?
I have a Breezer Lightning, Manitou SX '00, full XTR except for shifters and brake levers which are SRAM.
Oz, I would have to agree with you about the pretentiousness of the REI folk.

I have a 98 Klein Mantra Race
'01 Manitou X-Vert Front Suspension Fork
LX Components all around
Bontrager STEM
WTB Headset
Riser Bar
Panaracer XC 2.1 tires
Thats all I can think of right now. I love this bike.
I have done the downieville downhill a couple of times in the last two years we have camped up there, and usually can be found riding behind Pacific Union College in Angwin CA, or Annadale State Park near Santa Rosa, CA
