2002 Alero rear parking brake adjustment for new rotor

My 2002 Alero has rear disc brakes with a drum-in-hat parking brake. Could someone please tell me how you adjust the parking brake inward so that when I install a new rear disc rotor, I can adjust the parking brake in so that it will fit the I.D. of the new rotor? I can turn the adjuster so that the parking brake moves outward, but it looks as if you try to turn it in the opposite direction, you'll break the clip that it ratchets against.

If it's similiar to regular drum brakes, you have to take a small flat head screw driver and use it to "slightly" take the pressure off of the clip that is hitting the star disc. While you hold the the clip off of the star disc, you use your free hand to rotate the star disc in the opposite direction.
