Rear Shocks

I am looking for info on replacing the rear shocks on my 93 525iTouring.
It currently has the self leveling type and I want to replace them with standard shocks, I do not need the self leveling.
Is this possible? And is there some place I can obtain step by step instructions?
Got a feeling that this vehicle will take a bit of tweaking - needs new exhaust as the old is rusting out, an old leak around the oil pan and a leak on the left side of the rear end differential.
Any sources would be appreciated.
