How tough are these trucks???NVmySSE 09-01-2006, 08:59 PM got a question, how tough are these trucks??? I just bought a 94 f-150 with 169000 miles...everything drivetran original... it runs and drives pretty good considering its age... but i know its been thru some serious hardcore off roading, and i noticed one of the caps on the front axleshaft is missing, so should i sell it cause its gonna cause me probs?? or are these tough enough trucks to handle all the abuse its been thru??? the reason im asking is cause my whole life ive been a chevy guy, so i know nothing about fords at this point in time..thanx! Pete33Vt 09-02-2006, 04:47 AM I wouldn't sell it, Just give it a good going over and check everything out. I think that Fords a really tough and can handle alot of abuse,as long as it givena little tlc from time to time.I have an 88 F-250 with 203,400 miles on the body. And its still going strong. It needs alittle work but, it goes good. That my thoughts. Pete sreve 09-04-2006, 07:04 PM if that u-joint does not have a grease fitting it's oem. if so it speaks volumes about what they will do. i can go chevy or ford but '96 or earlier ford rules hands down. don't buy a 12 dollar u-joint they are not all created equal. borg warner will cost roughly twice what the white box special costs and worth it. Millermagic 09-04-2006, 07:16 PM I will say Ford Trucks are very tough. My father had a 1987 3/4 ton that had 250000 miles on it. Before he got it, it was rolled over while towing a camper. He bought it, did quite a bit of work on it ... except the roof was still dented when he was done. The whole time he had it, he was carring more than 2000 pounds on it (had a utility box full of tools). Eventually it got where it did need work, but it was too rusty to be practical from the rust. BAMB136 09-07-2006, 10:19 PM I spray power lines if youve ever looked they run them across the roughest areas they can I had a 93 F250 4x4 with 286000 on it I haul around 4500lbs on it I drove it three years around 125 miles a day through ditches creeks I have had it in twists where the bed was pushing the back of the cab in about half way up the back window I've climed hills that you could'nt hardly walk up for three years and the company wanted to go with a newer truck so I now have a 96 I've been driving 2yrs the only differance is the one I have now has higher gearing so I have to push it a little harder It now has 298000 I have had to put a u joint in the last 2 yrs but mabe if I would grease them now and then I wouldnt but atleast I know their good if new Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
