The instrument panel lights will flicker from normal brightness to dim quite rapidly and with no rhythm at all. No other lights are affected,(radio, dome light, headlights) The car performs normally. Could it be the alternator without the idiot light coming on? Battery isn't showing anything unusual (corrosion, spillage from overcharging)

Check condition of rotary dimmer switch, clean with WD-40 or contact cleaner...no worries...
