Had my first race as a completed Gotian

Gotian

Well unfortunately it wasnt against what I wanted it to be but whatever.
I was driving to work when i see this 240 fly by me, so I think what the hell and I shoot after him in 3rd gear from a start of 30. He had a loud exhaust and a loud intake, looks like he was about to repaint it cause the paint had been stripped off it. I also saw that he had a Team Axis decal. Ive had some run ins with these guys before and they have some pretty decent cars. so we go and it was a joke....I completely owned him in 3rd, by the time he hit 60 I was going 80 and had well over 6 cars on him. I tried to bait him again but he didnt want to go again.

I think I have a good spot for that, you will see musashi beat me on the straight but then a twisty comes up and I will catch up and pass him, just have to get him to agree to doing that one.

The GTO has a .85gs road holding... C&D's long term test RX-8 did a .88gs.

It might be close, plus the GTO has the power to hold off the RX-8 I'd say in a real road coarse race.

In a time trial only race, like autox, the RX-8 may be triumphant cause it doesn't have to try and pass the GTO. Which is supremely helpful.

Time for a track day and put the two of ya's head to head on a road course. Ultimate test. ;)

EDIT: Reading the C&D long term test on the Rx-8, it did 0-60 in 5.9 and 1/4 in 14.6 @ 96mph. Of course that's after 40,000 miles, new it did 0-60 in 6.6 and 1/4 in 16.1@ 93mph. But, I think once the car gets some miles under it, if you and Mushman go heads up, outta the hole the RX-8 might have the jump just doe to lightweight, lack of initial torque (no tire spin, which is good) and close ratios.

The GTO, once Mushman gets it hooked, probably by top of 1st gear and into 2nd, will most likely motor on past, but for the first two gears he'll have to work for that kill.

and at about 120 I would start to pull on him and get next to him at 135 (if we take it that far, cause drag hurts the GTO pretty bad.) This has been tested on alot of car simulation games, though I know simulations are different than real life, just thought I would throw that out there to start up an argument:icon16:

The Rx-8 is drag limited to 145mph... The 2004 LS1 GTO is governed to 158mph. Mushmans LS2 has 50hp more than the LS1 version, so it could easily hit the 158mph barrier, if it wasn't governed I'd say, given the room, it might push 165mph.

Sorry, but at those speed horsepower wins...

EDIT: Was reading C&D's test on the 04 GTO, and they got it to stick to the pavement at .88gs... Hm, in the right hands the GTO ain't bad.

the '05+ are drag limited to 168, why you ask cause they fixed the problem with the drivetrain loss and the 05+ are getting more whp that the previous 2 years. It is ECU limited to 180something

-The Stig-
09-01-2006, 04:37 PM
I'd like to see that wankel try to get up to 168, C&D's car was a 2006 (was probably a built in late 2005)... I'll trust them to say it's drag limited to 145mph. I don't trust Mazda's word on the RX-8 anymore.

well the GTO is soon to be a Formatto Edition Bobcat GTO so thats another 50 BHP, 35 WHP to harrass the RX-8.

I suck on the track but Gotian and I can rape a twisty road hands down.
Im up for a street test with some twisties man...what are you thinking for a course? The Crossings?
you knwo that spot well, I would need a few nights to practice.

Now the true test of man and machine will take place in 3 weeks! SCCA CarlC AutoX in Homestead Speedway. Me and Gotian will be there with pants on!
The GTO is gonna be the underdog in that match considering Auto X is so much tighter then roadX.

Still I did manage a faster wet lap in the 1.8t then Gotian so maybe, just maybe the Blue Destiny can out manuver the Gohan.

Taking all bets. 20 bucks on the GTO.

I sure as hell you have pants on... Sausage Fests are against AF rules... insta-ban!

Anywho... try the Auto-x and try a road course... would be cool to see which does better.

Do a best out of 3 series... Auto-x, road course, and a section of street you guys know and time each others cars through a particular piece of road like a hill climb... ???

Just be safe about it. :p

the one that you read about with the long term test was a 2005 built in 2004, also 2006 models werent built till january of 2006 because of an engine recall that was in the previous models. Also the problem with the low numbers were due to a restriction in the ECU and so Mazda offered a retune for them to clients (they had to pay a certain amount of course but it wasnt to expensive) and not only did it raise the whp but changed the top speed of the car. People have tested it out and some get around 157-168 depending on the conditions. Also some people have been dynoing at 190-200 instead of the original 160-170.

The 06 model is going to be a rare one since they only made them for 7 months.

Mmmm I love RX-8's. I'm considering buying one once I save up enough money, but am scared of the rotary engine and reliability.

Musashi3000GT
09-03-2006, 03:18 PM
they seem very reliable without the turbos.

I mean I see 1 or 2 RX-7s in every shop around town that handles that type of car.
Ive yet to see the first RX-8 broken down.

Gotian
09-04-2006, 12:30 PM
the engines have picked up the unreliability flag because the people who buy them dont realize they are not piston engines so they treat them like one and dont change the oil when they are supposed to and they dont watch the oil level cause let's face it, they do consume oil because they directly inject oil into the engine where the rotors heat it up making the oil thin out faster than a piston car.

Yeah I wouldn't mind either, except for the fact that they you have to be very meticulous with them. Check oil everytime you fill up for gas, make sure your car is completely warmed up before you turn off your car, and so on. Don't know about this, but don't you have to replace the apex seal every so often as well? Anyway, they are little things to worry about, but I wouldn't have to patience to do it. Still, sexy little cars that make good power out of such small displacement.

those same rules apply for the 8 except for the seals. Also the 8 makes the same whp as the FD did, the difference is the weight. the stock fd's made about 190-210whp and so do the 8's the 8's are just alot more reliable and more reasonable in price.

so what happend to the jetta....and what do you think your new toy will hit in the 1320......

still have the jetta and I will keep working on that, once my Fiance gets a new car and i officially get the jetta back (even though its under my name I gave it to her) the jetta will no longer be a daily driver car, weekend only for playtime and tracks.

You'd think I have it the other way around but I love the RX-8 too much to not drive it everyday. The RX-8 will see the track because that it what I wanted it for, what's the point in having all that handling power but no place to handle it? As for the 1/4 don't know what I'm going to get, best time I've seen on a slip was 14.2XX not saying I'm going to get that because the average driver gets about 14.6. wouldnt really care what I got though cause that's not what i want the car for, if I did I wouldve gotten something like a WS6 Trans Am (which I love this car BTW and wouldnt mind having one later on, if I found one) So yeah, i like to take turns, don't really care too much about straight line.

And plus autocrosses, road courses, drifting, and so on are the direction I want to head to, and would also like to have our team go towards, and I hope musashi backs me on that and pushes me to do those events cause he's a good friend, hell everyone on the team are good friends and I like to think we push each other to reach better goals and better ourselves.
