my friend has a 1993 probe gt with the 2.5 liter motor he thinks. The alternator is bad and he is wondering how to get to it. from what he describes, the alternator is tucked down in the front right corner of the car. He says it in unaccessable from the top or bottom of the engine. he thinks that he has to lift the engine out of the car to change it. is there an easier way to get to it to replace it? thanks for all the help.

Repair manual, repair manual, repair manual. If you don't wish to purchase one, try your local library.

Below is a link to a basic repair guide

if it's a 6banger, just follow the plug wires from the cap & rotor 3 should goto the front valve cover and 3 should goto the rear valve cover just behind the intake manafold. also the im should have a v6 24v badge imprinted on the intake manafold unless it's been de-badged. on a v6 on a probegt or mx6 2ndgen as your looking at the motor from the front the alternator is on the passengerside next to the belts. just look down to the left it should be their

I just changed mine in my 94 PGT today.

1. Disconnect neg battery cable
2. Remove air duct and radiator upper bracket
3. Remove fans
4. Disconnect electrical connectors from alternator
5. Loosen belt tensioner lock nut and tension adjusting bolt.
6. Remove alternator upper mounting bolt.
7. Raise and support vehicle (Just right side will do)
8. Remove lower splash shield.
9. Remove belt from pulley.
10. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts and support compressor aside...DO NOT REMOVE HOSES FROM COMPRESSOR
(easier to remove alt if you move compressor to the right as far as possible)
11. Remove alt through-bolt and remove alternator thru bottom of car.

(FYI-the bolt will probably hit the body so it seems as tho you can't remove the alt, the bolt sits in a slotted support, just push alt toward front of car after loosening the through-bolt and it will drop down)

Hope this makes sense and helps....I would also invest in a Chilton's manual for this car.

i have a question
i just had a new alternator put in my 1995 ford probe gt about 2 days ago. i was driving and it was icy and i gave it gas and it spun my tires and my engine rpm's went to about 6-7k.

now my batter meter or electrical meter near the speedo says low and wont go up. is it my alternator again or my battery?
