toooo much treble
hey everyone, my 96 g had 6.5 inch clarion speakers out back and lately they had been makeing a noise similar to a blown speaker when the bass hit , so last weekend i swapped them out for a set of kenwood 6.5 inch 2 way rear deck speakers ,peak power is 160 w (unsure on what effect this has on the g's sounds) plus they have tweeders in them, anyway after putting them in i dont have near the bass i used to and i have a unbelivalbe amount of treble (adjusted out ), the rest of the system is bone stock . did i do something wrong here ? also when i pulled the stock clarions out they do not appear to be blown ,what gives here?so now im looking at getting a infinity cappa self powered 12 inch sub woofer,(275$) good idea?anyway i would appreciate any feed back anyone can give me as stereos are a tricky deal for me (blown up a few amps in my lifetime)..........:bandit:

drivers do not need to be cosmetically ripped up along the edge to be considered 'blown' could be dat you burnt the coils inside the yok, or dropped something or got too much moisture on the cone to make the coil get out of alignment with the magnets. either way, if your cone's makeing a rough buzz noise, then it's blown. push down on the cone gently near the outer rim of the dust cap. if you hear any rubbing, then your drive is gone for sure.

bout the treble, should put in another crossover to smooth out the mid and hi's.

One other thing that you need to consider is that the Kenwoods are seperates.
On your Clarions, you have one ~6" diameter woofer putting out bass, treble and mids. The woofer is trying to do so many things at one time that some sound frequencies start to drown other ones out. Bass obviously takes priority over everything because the bass makes the cone move much farther.
On your Kenwoods, theres a woofer, and a tweeter. Now, the Kenwood is a 2-way speaker. That means that the sound that enters the speaker is seperated before it comes out as sound. I'm not sure exactly how Kenwood has the crossover inside of the speaker set up, but I can tell you that there is bass going to the woofer, and highs going to the tweeter. And because of the crossover they are not conflicting with eachother like they used to.
There is still just as much treble as there was before. And just as much bass. And even just as much mids. Whats happening is that you can auctaully hear it better. Just wait till you start buying good amps and good component speakers... your ears will be hurting.
Although I myself prefer having speakers that are so loud they hurt your ears. Everyone in the car goes "GOD TURN IT DOWN IT HURTS!" I just keep it loud.

thanks all it all makes sense now . for some reason i gained some of the bass back it sounds great now .korn sounds good on it, the symphonic music seems to have gained a few instraments . techno sounds cool but it needs more kick so now its off to get subs , i guess im getting the feaver eh ?
it hurts but chicks dig it
