temperature

i got a 327 in my 86 chevy truck and i am running the same temperature guage that was in my 305. The 327 ran max at 155. My mechenic said that i might not be running a thermostat, so i bought a 160F one and took my goose neck off. Apperently i was running a working 180F thermostat, so i took it out and put my 160 in. Now it runs at 115 to 120 max. I dont know if the sender unit is working right or whats going on. any sugjestions? Also the water flow is not deverted.

Re: temperature

gauge broken? are the fans hooked up to come on earlier?

im guessing you want the temp to go up? since 115 with a 160 'stat sounds kind of weird.. how can the temp be lower than the thermostat? is your temp sens hooked up?

Re: temperature

There is no way your motor is running 115, There has to be a wiring issue with the sending unit, you didn't use any teflon tape on install did you? You should be able to use the same unit as the 305 and 350's are the same.

Re: temperature

I was just wondering how it would matter if you use teflon tape or not, other then leakin, the sender would still read the temp correctly. but i do agree, there is no way that any engine is running that cold. even if it were possible it wouldnt last very long

That's the sensors ground through the threads.
