Cool Equinox AWD on the beach

Will an Equinox work well on the beach in the sand has anyone tried it off road at all. I don't want to spend the money for the beach pass and then get stuck and the pass go to waste. My wife is handicapped and it would be so nice if I could drive her right down to the beach.

If you really get stuck in the sand you may burn up the transfer case.
