I have a '94 Accord (196kmi) with a coolant leak under the engine's left side. It appears to be coming from the water pump. There have been no worn bearings sounds. Any idea if I can drive it for the next few days until the weekend comes when I can tear it down then? Or do I need to park it now? I replaced the oil seal, timing belt, and balance shaft belt about 5kmi ago. What a mistake not to replace the water pump then. Thanks in advance.

It all depends on how far you go and how much coolant leaks out. I have done it. Just make sure you check coolant level often.

Most shops do the pump replacements with the timing belt. I would be very carefull. Keep some coolant in the car until you can get it replaced and check the level before every start, but if I were you I wouldn't drive it until I had it replaced. I would take it to the shop and thats it.

Thanks for the info. I just added about 2 pints of coolant. I did this sometime ago not thinking anything was wrong, but I suspect it may have been like this for a while.

I don't know how much the 89 and the 94 Accords are the same, but I had my pump go out once because I didn't have enough antifreeze in my systems and it froze. I thought it was kinda funny consider that I live in South Carolina at the time!

Just go get another on and replace it. if it's like my 89, the water pump is easy to replace. Your prolly talking an hour of work. And it only cost something like $30.

If you decide to drive arounf with a leaking pump... fill up a gallon jug full of water, and take it with you. You DO NOT want get into a situation where you have to drive on an over heated engine. That's just asking for a warped head.

When my pump went out is made no sound what so ever. The engine just over heated like CRAZY!

It's a little different in a 94. You have to drop the engine a little to get to it. Thats why the usually do it when the change the timing belt.

In that case you'll prolly have to spend another $30 on a rolling hydraulic floor jack to lift/lower your engine with. (assuming you can lower it enough that way).

I had to raise my engine up once to change my timing belt because it has an engine mount right in the center of it! Just becareful not to dent or crush your oil pan when you do it.
