Okay, everyone post what the fastest speed you've gone... or dared to do. :bloated:

i've gone 120mph chasing a 99 corvette.... on a city freeway...

Keep in mind that most of us here know how to count... since some people post like 170mph! Unless they're driving a nascar, i don't think the odometer goes up that high! :sun:

Cruisin' at 120mph in my 90' 626 GT Turbo, only reason i slowed down was that i ran outta road

So far, 160ish. Speedo said 170 but our cars are 5-10mph optimistic.
91 Stealth RT/TT nowhere near stock. and our speedometers read to 180 mph.:smoker:

well to me and everyone thats heard them it sounds pretty damn good, it also depends on your box setup, ported or enclosed, also size and dimensions, you may not think it has alot to do with it but you would be suprised what you could get a semi decent speaker to sound like

It gets pretty freaky at about 120mph... my friend who has a 99 vette thought it was freaky except for that the car feels rock solid at that speed, like it was on rails... and the only reason he slowed down was there was this cop who just suddenly appeared right beside him and the cop waved at him to slow down.... so he did... he he he.

That's what i call rock solid speed racer!

almost 240 km/h. I'm not sure how much mph that is.
It was racing on the motorway (with a bit of downhill help) against a Opel Kadett 2.0 litre 16v with digital instrumentation. As i was slowly gaining the lead by overtaking him i could read at his instrumentation that he was driving at 231 km/h.

My car was a highly modded Golf II.
Golf 1.9 litre 16 valve motor with Motorsport spec intake manifolds, exhaust system and pistons.
About 160 bhp output.
new Redline about 8.800 rpm.

In my G20, I hit 130mph, then slowed down becasue my then stock suspension felt very, mushy. Then, one time I was with my Dad in his Porsche, we hit roughly 150mph traveling to Las Vegas. Anyone who knows Utah, knows what the roads are like between here and Vegas :D

Last time i was going from here to vegas i was thinking that i would give ANYTHING for a Ferrari right about now, its a freaking long drive but not if you're going 150!!!! that must have been awesome. the fastest i've ever driven was 105 in my friends passat, it was at like 10 PM going south on I-15 with quite a bit of traffic, then i saw this white bronco with blue on the side with what i thought were roof racks, but as i got closer it was a sherrif, so i slammed on the brakes and got back in traffic, he didn't catch me though. i was really stupid to be going that fast with that many cars on the road. the fastest i've ever been while in a car was 117 mph.

Last night i took on a 94' Cougar 4.6L V8 automatic (RWD) in my 90' Mazda 626 2.2L 4-cyl. standard shift (FWD) The Cougar had a computer mod that improved the RPM curve (tires squaked in 2nd gear) I am running all stock except for my exhaust (see mod below) Well, we both had a hell of a start, squealing tires all around. First through third i wound out the gears, fourth gear came and im running at about 3,000 RPM and all of the sudden my turbo kicks in. I had a jump on him like you wouldnt belive, from there on i only gained he never had a chance to catch up, i think both of us were stunned, i didnt expect to win that one. My one friend and the kid i raced thought it may be close but none of us expected me to come out that far ahead. It was a great experience, the adrenaline rush was unreal. Another one of my friends has a 95 or 96 Firebird V6 standard shift and he has been wanting to race me cuz i always would tell him whats the point cuz i would win, i may just have to take on the challenge after tonights victory.

First of all i have gone 118 in my 87' celica. in the process of making it faster as we speek:sun:. As for the MTX issue. 8000's are the way to go if you have the money or a good hook up. Unfortunetly to make full use of the 8000's you need power. With only 4 ohms 8000 12's go from 23-150 mhz, where as the 4000's only go 29-150 mhz. Now those are just retail figures but they are + or - 2 to 3 ohms corect. As jet said already it is the incloser though. I have seen 2-12" 8000's powered outthe ass but sounded like crap.

Sleepy

i had two 8000's before i switched to my momo's the 800's are much better subs then the 4000's most people just dont have enough balls in there amp to push them like they need to be pushed i have a 1000d mtx amp which is roughly 1000 watts rms not peak and that was just about right for two 8000's but not many people have amps that big they have 500 watt amps and to much speaker and get pissed say the speakers suck and as far as amps if your pushing two big subs get a mono block more bang for the buck

Haha, is this a car audio forum? :D

Anyways, most of us are pretty reckless drivers when we turn 16 (or whichever is the legal driving age in your area) and I was no exception. Like many of you, from 14-15 I itched to feel the need for speed and I couldn't wait till 16 to enjoy the thrill of high speed driving, so one night at a silent 3am, equipped with only a driver's (learner's) permit, I dared to venture out onto the public roads with my old man's '94 Camry (I know, not the most elegant thing, but at least it was a V6). Only having had about 3-4 hours of seat time behind the wheel in my life (all that time supervised by pops, as well), I thought to myself that I should make this trip worthwhile, so for the first time ever, I headed for the freeway onramp. The moment I entered the onramp, I forced the V6 to sing through all 4 automatic gears, all the way until the tach began to say 'enough'. The car was electronically goverened (like most P.O.S.'s out there) somewhere under the 140 mph mark, and I'm pretty sure I was doing 135, but could only glance at the speedometer intermittently, since I had my hands full trying to keep the car centered in the lane. But I knew I was somewhere between 133-137 mph since the engine topped out and the fuel cut-off kicked in. Man, do you ever notice how loud the rumble lane separators sound at around 120? "Bbrrraaaaappp" Of course, being the immature inexperienced moronic driver I was, I had trouble negotiating the slight curvatures of the freeway, and so I would wander from lane to lane.

After that, I pretty much calmed down from such needless wreckless driving, almost like an adolescent kid who finally got some from some chick for the first time. I guess it all worked out OK, considering that my own cars have been inline fours up until now, and there's no way normal four bangers could ever hit that area.

626TooFast
09-05-2001, 10:13 AM
Morpheus, what do you mean a normal four banger could never do that speed, my rice burner would hit 140 easily, its a 2.2L Turbo, all stock. I have never tried to wind it out totally on the highway because my first experience going about 110mph got me pulled over by a State Trooper. Ive had it to 120 on back roads but I wont dare to push it on the highway again.

Chris

120mph (200 kph) in both a 91 nissan stanza and a 78 vette with the T-top open.
Fastest quarter, too slow, cant drive alone yet.

You say your camry has a limiter, than it would probably be at 112mph, not 130+. Those would be V-rated rubber, and I dont think a Camry ever came with that. Anyone wanna back me up??

Ahh, but you see, you've answered your own question. Perhaps I should have been a little clearer. "Normal" was the key word, and by this I was describing your average joe under 2.0L naturally aspirated boring economotors (these are the engines that have powered my own cars in the past and I can't break 120). But yeah, a 2.2L turbo could totally rape 140 mph without breaking a sweat, and I'm not just saying it either, since I was sitting shotgun in a lightly modified Eagle Talon TSi-AWD once, and we were running fairly even with an M3 on the highway. Too bad M3s are electronically limited too; it would have been wonderful to see it waste us.

Nope. You spurred my curiosity on whether or not I really did go that fast, so I went to the local library (couldn't find crap about Camry V6 top speed specs online) and browsed through old car rags and most say around 135 mph electronically limited. As for tire rating, I don't know much about that car since it was never mine, but the next time I see a '94 V6 LE Camry with factory tires, I will besure to check. :)

granted the S is no rocket....but its not THAT slow either.....
and at that speed, its just whos willin to push it that extra bit....I was. He wasnt and dropped out.....so no he didnt "kill me" (it would be different if it was at a street light or something) and I didnt mean to race him....I was just driving by him and passed him and he i guess didnt like that....so he came up beside me and gave me the "ya wanna go" look...And then we just went.....

i've had my 89lude si up to 136, which is pretty much the limit by gears... redline is 6800, and the gearing for 130 is 6500rpm... do the math... this was from some old fucker in a taurus sho that got pissed at me cuz i pulled the 100mph fly by, so he tried catchin me, but he let off at 120... and i kept goin... hehehe

the other car worth noting is my mom's then new villager, which i drove when i was sixteen... had it up to 120, and the bitch was solid... granted, it is a maxima w/ a van on it... so it handles awesome, but it was really solid...

I've driven plenty of cars fast but the fastest was 145mph in an old Jenson Intercepter, took awhile to get there cos the thing must have weighed like 2 ton . solid car, big ass engine and the fuel gauge went like a rev counter :( , at best the thing did like 8 miles to the gallon and thats when they were new. Car i have now is a stock UK Spec Mazda 626 2.0L GXI. I asked Mazda the Bhp and they told me 138Bhp which is cool, a real sleeper. Last night did 124mph which upset the Merc E300 that lost his bottle at 115 ish No cops Thankgod:sun:

UK laws are bad for taking away your license for getting caught doing over 100 so i was lucky ( so why do i keep doing it :D )

Well I am a young fucker in a taurus sho, and I wouldn't have let off. Where are you from, I have raced a little honda on the freeway once, but it must not have been you, because he let off at about 115. I kept going to see what the taurus could do- got up to about 141-3. Didn't feel like I was going over 50mph.

Got my Caprice up to around 180Km/h (I'm just guessing here.). Now don't laugh because the speedometer only goes up to 140Km/h, and the needle was completly buried. [I couldnt even see it at all :D ] It made me feel like I was flying cause of burying the needle, but the car did pull for quite a while, and i know the 305ci 5.0L will do about 160Km/h, (limited I think) and mine is a 350ci 5.7L with the limiter removed, so im just guessing. I was gonna get a friend to come beside me in there car but most of my other friends wouldnt be able to hang with me with there slow-ass trucks and lower geared cars.

I can remember the days of fun when it used to be me and my best friend in my old Mazda 323 1.6L going down a really long, sloping hill on the highway with a tailwind and me flooring it, and the car just screaming, it was shaking lots and we were barely doing over 140Km/h. Its no wonder that car bagged out :smoka:

There are old(er) merc's that are 300. I have seen them parked, so I'm sure they exist.

Jensons are monsters! Didnt they have American V8's?? And you british people are really under-powered. Sorry, its true. Here 138hp would get you laughed at. But you do handle better and are generally more fun to drive.

Oh, I might be getting an 88 Prelude. Its a long story, but if I do get it, it will be totally free! We'll see.

Fastest I've driven is 140kph, not bad considering I'm 15 (no license).

Yeh I know what u mean most of our cars are under powered compared to US versions, They do handle alot better cos we have these things called bends and corners on our roads :p (lol) They have to be driven hard to be real fun, normally 5000 revs and above.
I got to drive a Dodge Dakota 4x4 Sport V8 Magnum, while i was in Canada for awhile, 240Bhp i think. Put it in 2wd and floored it :D o what fun!!!:sun: Nice Truck, cheap price, but about $2000 to import it to UK:( And the price of fuel over here is way too high:confused: Bloody Tax:confused: but still the Dakota did 110mph and was alot more stable than a Land rover Discovery or Mitsu Shogun.
Wish i could try a Hemi:devil: That really would lose me my licence.

Hemi.. um, yes. 425hp (closer to 500 though, they were under-rated). 0-60 in the 5's (bad tires), a quarter in the low 13's (again, tires). Very nice:)

But European cars are also more involving to drive. If you ever try to steer a Pontiac Grand Am, it will steer, but you have no idea what the wheels are doing! And that sucks:( I prefer the steering on an 87 Nissan King Cab with the 4-pot. It may handle worth poop, but you can tell that the front wheels are slipping, and what the road is like, etc, etc.

First off, I'm impressed, some of you are frickin' ballsy mofo's. 160 mph?!?! That's crazy!! The fastest I've been is 135 mph in my Teg back when I had my JRSC installed. I was racing a cypress green Teg, that I assume must have had some serious mods, because there I was going 135 on a downhill, and even though I was still increasing speed, he was still pulling away from me (slowly, but nevertheless he was pulling away), and I decided enough is enough and eased off. I was scared shitless because cars in the lane next to me were going like 65 to 70. I was shaking for a moment or two after that. I plan to top 135 mph once I get my new engine and rebuilt SC installed.

is that 130mph or 130km/h??? since you live in Canada, i was thinkin maybe you mean 130km/h
130km/h isn't very fast... that's only like 75-80mph (guess)

353 km/h in a Dodge Viper RT-10. Only reason I didn not top it out, was b/c there was a curve in the freeway!!!

JD@af
10-15-2001, 06:11 AM
Whoa whoa whoa, 353 km/hour? That's 219.3 miles/hour. That can't be right, especially if that wasn't quite "topped out." Motor Trend has tested the top speed of the Viper GTS, and has arrived at figures like 188 mph and 192 mph. And that's with the GTS coupe with a hard top (which should be faster than the RT/10 convertible).

Maybe this is what they warn you about, how your speedo may be inaccurate at high speeds. Hey, I'd like to believe that, but I simply can't. A Lingenfelter twin turbo C5 Corvette can barely reach speeds like that (I believe the recorded top speed was 225 mph). It's not a Hennessy or otherwise modded Viper, is it?

spy
10-15-2001, 06:17 AM
It wasn't a Hennessy Viper, but it was modded. We do all our own work on it too - it's called shit loads of money he got and lots of free time. Notice, I never said it wasn't modded or it was. Next time, dont jump to soo many fucking conclusions until you got facts straight. Have you ever gone that fast before? Probably not, eh? Well, when you do let me know because you don't forget that feeling! SHITHEAD!!!

i can't think of any highway/freeway that you would have enough time and room to do 220mph

it takes a long time to get to even 200mph
plus it sounds incredibly stupid to do 220mph in a public area, not on a track

also it would be really hard to get a Viper RT/10 to do 220mph..... that's only 20mph slower than the FASTEST street legal car in the world, Mclaren

I know of 3 other Vipers that can do these speeds. These are just people that I actually know. Look around. Ask around. Don't look on the surface, look beneath everything to see all the REAL cars. And, if you knew anything about the Island, you would know that the Freeway is practically a drag strip, it just has a few slight turns in it that NO car could do over 300 in.

I have been about 170mph in a 92 3000GT, with a few mods. Properly timed.

In a 94 R32 GTR close to 180mph, we were only going by revs though. So can't tell the actual speed.

In a 99 WRX Sti, around 150mph.

155 mph in a 1991 Toyota Supra turbo, 125mph in a 1991 Honda Prelude Si, and 130 in a 1998 Audi A4. All trips were performed on a desolate section of road and were double backed before running to make sure no cops were around. The Supra and Audi had a rev limiter (although both were running out of steam by that point anyway) and the prelude was redline limited. Al three felt rock-solid the entire time.

Go to your ECU, on the Right side of the screw there is a pink/blue wire, cut it and put a switch on it. Turn the switch off, no more speed limiter, car runs fine. You may get a check engine light if you leave it off too long, just reset it. :D

mtrai760

Let's see... The air comes in via a K&N filter through the Place Racing Cold air intake. Exhaust is fed through the Warspeed Racing Y-pipe and Stillen Exhaust. Shifts are sped up by the Transgo Shift kit, and 225/50/16 Kuhmo Ecsta Tires mounted on 16" 300zx rims help put the power to the ground, dampend by H&R springs, and controled with a Matrix Front strut tower bar and an Addco Rear sway bar. When you really REALLY need to get there in a hurry, an 80 shot of NOS is just two switches and a gas pedal away, with the extra fuel supplied by a 255lph Walbarro fuel pump, and watched by autometer fuel pressure and A/F ratio guages. I think that's it, but theres more coming later... :D

okay i just checked it out on the mazda.com website... it's impossible that you did 240km/h in a protege

The SE models (103hp) top speed is: 178km/h (manual) and 165 (automatic)
The LX/ES models (130hp) top speed is: 195km/h (manual) and 176km/h (automatic)

That is a good question.

The fastest I have hit in any of my cars was my LeBaron. How fast? Well the is the problem. I had the speedometer needle wrap back around to 35MPH. The speedometer on that car stops at 125MPH, and when I het 35 on the other side I was at about 5200 RPMs. My guess would be 155 maybe a little more. I would need a radar gun to find out.

The intake has been replaced as well as the exaust. Sometimes I run 120 octane in it as well. But that night I wasn't. I wouldn't want to push it that fast with 120 in it.

How'd i do 150 in a stock protege? simple, it's a 1991 Protege GT. It's the street version of the protege used in the WRC, or at least the american version, the japanese one had a turbo. So this protege, with the backseats and everything else that wasn't bolted down taken out and two people in the car weighs about 2000lbs. It has about 170 HP. When my cousin got it it was stock(still is actually) and it already has about an 11:1 Weight to power ratio.(a porche has one of like 9.4:1).

So thats how you do 150 in a stock protege. :sun:

Nice protege! Hwo much would one of those cost??

CAptynCrunch
10-26-2001, 02:39 PM
How much for that protege? well my cousin bought it about 4 months ago. When he got it it had a bit of body rust and the such.(it's to be exspected on a car tahts 10 years old and is in Newfoundland, quite possibly the worst place to have a car in North America.) He figuires about $1500 and it will be showroom quality(new paint job, rust removal and new seals for the windows, doors, sunroof etc...).

As for how much did it cost him to buy? $2,450 Canadian :)

It's a 1.8L DOHC NON-Turbo engine and it produces about 170HP and weighs about 2000lbs. Once it's done with a turbo, engine bore, and the engine redun with all full GT class titanium parts it should be quite a bit faster :)

You can actually get a GT version of the new 2002's but they don't have the same kind of power. It's jsut the standard 130-HP LE engine, but with nice rims and a different trim package.

Only $1500 canadian? I would guess closer to $4000 for a quality paint job, rust removal, and weatherstrips, unless he does all of that himself, then it might be closer to $2000

Well, i don't know, maybe it's cheaper here because people have to do it so much, or maybe they just don't do as good a job or something, but the rust removal he's doing himself. Actually we're doing it. Just as soon as their knew house is finished being built we're just gonna stick the car in his dads knew 50'X75' garage for a month or so and sand off every bit of rust we can find, inside and out. Then if my uncle will be kind enough to help us, we're dismantling the engine and doing a full overhaul.

The cars actually in pretty damn good condition for it's age and where we live.

To tell you the truth, the cars a complete mystery to us. He bought it from a private seller and he didn't really tell him anything about the car. We snuck into a truck way station to find the weight ourselves. We took it out to the local Mazda dealer and we asked them if they had any catalouges or service manuels for a 91 protege GT and the guy laughed at us and said that they don't exist. Then we pulled open the drapes and showed it too him and his jaw almost hit the floor :)

One of their mechanics is into imports andthings and he said taht it must be the american version of the GT-X which was the japanese, turbo version, but they weren't brought state-side.

If the new 2002 proteges and anything to go by, then the GT is just and upgrade package and didn't really cost that much more.

hello i am the owner of the 91 protege that my cousin formerly talked about. There seem to be a few people who dont have the facts here no offence intended. my car is one of the last of the japanese factory racing trend that plagued the WRC in the late 80's and early 90's where there were only a hand full of exact street versions of the WRC cars produced to allow the company to race their car in international rally competition. For the record my father (a former street racer) who has recently changed his views on japanese cars (for the better) has been tutoring me on the intricacies of engines. we found that my car also came stock (and i use the term loosely) with super high compression pistons , bronzed rings, forged pistons and a high performance header.
its exact compressin ratio is a mistery but we can tell that it is roughly 13-1 (the new 2001 celica GTS is exactly 11.5-1) now this in and of itself generates a fair bit of kick. My cousin was mistaken now dont laugh but the only place i can find decent information on my car is from gt2 yes in know inaccurate but it contains a car that is for all intents an purposes a car that is exactly the same as mine (at least exteriorly) in the mazda protege GTX a four wheel drive japanese version with a turbo engine and 176hp now from that and the fact that mine has higher compression i checked out the mazda turbo used on that model and its relative horsepower gain and determined that my car had roughly 160HP (My cousin over guestimated at 170,sorry) it has a full rally suspension that holds firm at 140mph yes that is correct it has done that speed cheked for accuracy by my friend at college that has a gps speedo in his 96 talon tsi awd that CAN'T overtake me in the flatout (but it can kill me off the line). I used the weight scale at my local recycling depot, as we all do in St. Johns, says that it weights in at +or - 10 1979 pounds with a full tank of gas and us in it this equates out to 11.5 to 1 power ratio with us in it or a 10 to 1 with it empty (not much use without a driver) I have nothing against american cars (in fact im a true vette lover) but i have been able to bag everything up to a camaro Z28 or a 4.3 GT Mustang (my friends and not off the line , he kills me there) any way i just figured i mention the specifics of my car so as not to affend anyone or confuse. if anyone has any info that i haven't listed on my caar please help me out thanks for the site to post this on.:bloated:

that japanese spec protege's turbo must not be very good.... that's not a big gain at all. If yours with no turbo is only 16hp less, the higher compression can't give you tooooo much more horsepower...
I guess that turbo must be very small :)

I probably should of told the whole story originally, well here it is:

I has entering I75 at 4:00am heading North from Square Lake road and going about 75-80mph when I see the corvette coming up behind me fast, probably about 110mph. I drop the car into fourth and get on it hard, I am not sure if he accelarated harder at the time but he never got by me. He did get next to me before my car started pulling on him, In about 1 min I couldn't see him behind me anymore. About another minute later I hit a cement strip on the expressway, which normally wouldn't be a big deal but I felt the suspension go up, but didn't feel it come down! I looked down and saw I was going a little above 180mph on the speedometer, I imediately let off the gas and slowed down to about 75mph and got over into the right lane. In about 30 seconds the corvette flys by me probably about 150mph. I am not even sure he saw me as he went by.

I fly planes quite a bit and the only way I can explain the feeling I felt was when you first start to rotate on take off you pull back on the yoke and the air under the wings takes the weight off of the suspension and then after gaining a few more knots you pull back a little more and takeoff. I feel pretty sure I was real close to taking off and since then I haven't been over 150mph in any of my cars.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find this hard to believe.

1. A Protoge is not very aero dynamic and the spedo doesn't read up to 180.

2. Your car has a rev limiter so there is no way that you could go 180 because it would cut you off after 5500 RPMs or so. Unless you had that changed, in which your car would not be stock anyymore. Which by the way to go 180 at your HP rating you would have to be doing 9500 RPMs in which case your engine would explode.

3. 180 MPH is not enough to lift your car off the ground. That would take a hell of a lot more air than that to get it off the ground.

Do you even read before you post? Who said anything about a Protoge? I said I was driving a '94 Porsche 911 Turbo, I have sold the car and now own a '96 911 Twin Turbo along with a few others. So I guess the rest of you post doesn't make any sense either. Also if you don't believe 180mph isn't fast enough to cause a car to lift up, then you don't have a clue.

I've hit 120 in my Escort on a very slight downhill on the highway with the stock engine no upgrades yet.... I usually crawl along that stretch at 100-110 on a very regular bases its a very slow highway with never any cops on it located by my house so theres no immediate danger....:finger:

new top speed!! 161mph...done at 1 am on I-12 from New Orleans to Memphis:) I went up there for thanksgiving, and was driving late one night so I figured, what the hell. Oh, by the way, street racer, I raced an M5 on a very twisty road in Memphis...we went about the same speed through the curves (I didn't know the road at all, so I wasn't really pushing it), but got by him on one of the straights. Also managed to find a Boxster, modded IS-300, and various assorted ricers. Overall, it was a pretty fun thanksgiving:D

vary vary close to 170 MPH

The fastest my car has done was vary vary close to 170 MPH we est due to the speedo toping out at 150. I didn't drive it my crazy ass friend did. We where at El Merage Dry lake bead doing the photo shoot for SCC Magazine and after we where done he took it for a Top Speed run in the pitch black of night. He drove about 1 mile turned around and followed his tracked back. It was crazy to watch he only took about 1/2 mile to get going that fast. Red Lined it in 5th at 8000 RPM no where to shift to..

I remember racing a ZR-1 just after I got my engine rebuilt. at 12 PSI and a Cam sprickets off a tooth 10 deg advanced out of wack I just bairly beat him by about 1/2 car lenth from 0 to about 90 MPH.
That was a fun street race. I thought I would get smoked.

Fastest i ever went was about 265km/hour, that's about 145mph in
my '82 Pontiac stock.

The only reason i stopped is cuz the road started to curve and i feared a slide.

I cant tell u for sure cause my speedo doesn't go that high. It only goes to 85 :(. My guess though would be around 100-105. I need to find someone to pace with and to see what she can do in 4th at that speed, but my guess is gonna be nothing at all. damn drag of the 89 bodies :(.

I could have sworn I posted in this thread. Well, the fastest I've gone is about 140mph in one of the older Acura Legends. The big sedan ones. This was about a few years ago. 93-95 or more to be exact. I think those were the years. The car was brand new from this girl I was seeing. She let me drive it for the weekend and I was on the highway when I did this.

you should have kept going...they're geared pretty (so they can hit 185mph:) ), and they start to pull on most cars right around 80...they aren't that fast in the low end, doing high twelves to low thirteens in the 1/4, usually

I have a 1991 Ford Taurus SHO+ with the limited edition fiberglass hood. I have a K&N airfiltration system, with the police grille for more airflow into the engine compartment, 73mm. MAF, 68mm. Throttle Body, Flowmaster exhuast, custom made y-pipe with hi-flo cat, 96 Brake Upgrade, Cross drilled rotors, Brembo brake pads, 9 psi. Vortech Supercharger, Superchip, Eibach lowering springs, Koni adjustable struts, custom made intercooler, Big Bore Butteryfly, and the SHO Shop's Power Package Stage IV for the engine. And I was going down I-95 and I got a custom made gauge set from www.speedhut.com and I made it go up too 200 mph. and on the gauge that I got made up I had my SHO up too 165 mph. But then traffic was coming up so I had to slow it down a little bit. But that's the fastes I've gone. So thats what a 476 bhp Taurus SHO+ goes :flipa:

Aprox, I didn't have the digital readout of an R1 and I wasn't about to take my eyes off the road for too long, damn you suzuki.
Oh, and I will never go that fast agian on somthing with two wheels, no seat belt, it is the most frightning thing ever. Just the sound of the wind is un-nerving. It almost feals like the air is a viscous liquid that is forming a coccon around you. Now I've never seen this but word has it that when you go that fast on somthing that small, the Oxygen molicules that smack into your windscreen actualy leave a small vapor trail.

that's kinda hard to believe ...I'm betting that's legit. Remember that the MKIV's were either all motor or twin turbo from the factory. A single turbo MKIV suggests to me that the twin turbos were swapped out for a single, bigger turbo for more boost. And these are serious drag racing machines (not that the TT's aren't as well)... in conclusion, 184 is quite high, but I buy it.

This was done at 184 at 21psi downpipe with no cat just muffler,The sound alone pullin up to 180 was intense and will never be done again,BUT running 11.8 it gets there fast real fast, sooo you big fast street cars quarter mile is better cause of seat belts and airbags but 180
they would have scraped me off many trees... Cool talking to you

Yup JE123, it was CRAZY!!!!! I donno if I can describe it looking down under my arm and seeing the road go past and knowing it was goin by at 194, and it was so close, and there was nothing between me and it. I'm not sure who was talkin about goin 150somthin on a CBR F3, but he's right, the wind is the craziest thing. If you stick your elbow out into it, it feals like a jet of water, it resists you and you have to force your way into it. You can hardly keep your elbow out without being afraid of throwing yourself off balance. And it makes the loudest screaming sound you've ever heard. The scary part is, the bike still had about 800rpm left to go. These bikes will bang 210.... Stock  Oh yea, and thats for 13 thousand, about 13,500 OTD at my local bike shop.

It was on a 3 mile long straight streach of Hwy70 at like 3 in the morning. My friend was behind me on my gixxer 750, I lost him around 175 :D I had another friend of mine ahead of me with a radar gun pretending to have a flat tire to keep traffic off the road too. I think he has some pics I'll see if he still has um.

The fastest i have taken my previous car was 153mph! Was traveling from NY to FL and somewhere in Gorgia i hit the open road with a 95 hatchback civic with moderate engine modification. B16 engine swap with 15psi of boost with the full block job (pistons, cams, springs, etc.)
Sold it and bought a S4.....

my imprezas speedo goes to 120, and i know the top speed is gear limited at 140, so somewhere in there. the 1st time i went over 100 i was driving my moms taurus, bouncing off the speed limiter at 110 and came over what shoulda been a hill but i ramped it and fishtailed down it at 110 on this nice narrow 2 lane with no visibility of oncoming traffic over the hill. prob the scariest thing thats ever happened to me in a car.

In my little Ford I made it to 118 mph, at least that's what the speedo said.
I sat next to my boss when he made his BMW Alpina B12 go 180 mph.
It's funny. BMWs normally lock at 155 mph, but in the Alpina conversion a friendly female voice reminds you to press the button to change this.

Fastest Iv'e gone is 140 in my friends '93 Acura Legend coupe w/ the type 2 engine. 130 in my bone stock '76 nissan 280z and this one tops the cake. I was going down hill on hiway 380(in denton tx) my headlights weren't working so I had my brites on. I was racing my brother in my 86 gran prix. I turned my brites off to show courtesy to a car that was coming. my brother slowed down. Turns out he was a cop that i passed. Clocked me at 94 in a 60, and i was still accelerating. It was about 2 miles before he caught me, I'd say i got up to 115 or so(pretty scary in that car). All i got was a ticket.

yeah, what gonthrax said. I've been in a fast car before, but its not the same as a bike. its nuts, especailly when big easy turns come up, leaning, even a bit at those speeds is scary. It's like the asphalt is beckoning you to have a touch...

and think of it this way - at 194 miles an hour, your going 132 FEET per SECOND!

I estimate that I've gone about 140 in my nova, the speedo tops out at 120 and the needle had long since disappeared in the dash. I came up way too quick on a semi and passed it before I had a chance to hit the brakes, not that it mattered since they're pretty much non-functional at that speed. (4 wheel drums!) It was fun but not an experience that I'd like to repeat in that car.

I've hit the 110 mark in my supercharged Cougar XR-7 going down a side street, the car has been broken since I got it so I don't get a chance to drive it much, some idiot screwed it up putting a new battery in. All I know is that when you turn the key it gets power to the colloid(sp?) which is what you have to jump in order to start the car, anybody know what's the matter with it exactly? Thanks a lot...
