what would cause my 99 jeep cheroke's cooling fan to keep running long after the engine is off. the cooling fan ran all night and drained the battery. what do i need to do?

Most likely the fan relay (turns the fan on & off) stuck on for some reason. Was it just one instance or every time it's turned off?

I think ur right from some other things ive read about it. it happened just once and drained the battery overnight. i unplugged the fan relay switch and plugged it back in and now the fan doesnt run at all.

same happened to me last year i replaced the relay and now all is fine. it's $25 but kind of a pain to get to. if it's as hot there as it's been in virginia you may want to replace it or your a/c being on will cause your jeep to overheat if you're stuck in traffic like i usually am

Ya, it has been hot here in Massachusettes as well, sucks to not be able to use the ac. I'm looking at having somone replace the relay for me. Is the relay located under the passenger headlight?

yes it is under the headlight behind the front bumper. if you take the lights out and loosen the bumper up you can pull it away far enough to get in there. it's not too big of a pain but it's definately in a dumb location.

I have to replace the cooling fan relay on my 03 grand cherokee but so far am unable to get to it. I have removed the front right headlight but that is all. Is there any way to get to it without removing the front bumper and facia?

I personally take the fascia off but I have seen guys take out the headlight and use a hole saw to get at it.I don't really like that but it gives plenty of room
