thanks... someone mentioned throwing one in a 240 and that it wasnt too much harder than the rb26 swap... cant remember who said it but it just made me wonder what infiniti had a 4.5

lol after countless hours of thinking, planning and budgeting ive come to the conclusion it would be a wise decision to go KA-T... as opposed to SR...i think ill get more out of a ka-t.. at least for what im looking for. but a vh45 sounds nuts. has anyone you know done the swap? any pics?

My friend got quoted (at NIssan) $3892, that was even discounted because his brother works there. Engine had 6k miles or something.

woow 1000 posts, I'm cool now...

you player! lol

3892 sounds really high...i remember seeing a website that sold new engines and it wasnt even that much. you could probably find a decent one for under 2500

In the linked thread, the original poster asked how the VH compared to the RB in terms of weight. Well, the aluminum block VH compares pretty favorably. They weigh a little over 500lbs(~521lbs). That is only a little more than the iron block KA(~493lbs) and probably quite a bit less than also iron block RB(possibly ~700lbs or more).

The weakest VH, the 4.1L version, still makes 266hp or something. That's a pretty good power gain right away. There's always the option of some sort of build, whether it be NA or FI.

Wow cool swap how hard is it to get the mounting hardware for the V8? Does it bolt up to the stock tranny? I wounder how it would compare to the LS1/LS2 swaps. DOHC vs 5.7/6.0L displacement. The LS series engines are lighter (aprox 380lbs for the LS2 about a hundred lbs lighter than the ka24) but you cannot beat the high RPM breathing of DOHC. For me it would all come down to which was easier to swap.

the vh45 will need the vg30 flywheel, clutch and tansmission. then you need a custom driveshaft, mounts, ect. i hear theres a kit coming out for LS swaps so that would probably be easyer, and its alot cheaper to make power out of an LS engine, but i would never go with anything but the VH

The Nissan V8s are great but they are very mild tuned, you would think with DOHC they would be screaming 400hp and the pushrod chevy would be lagging behind, but the opposite is true. Confused? Me too. If I could find a set of hot cams and some proformance intake and exaust for jap V8s that cost less than a brand new car I would probably never look at an LS ever again. The LS does have one big advantage though 380Lbs weight, fully dressed. Lighter than the ka24 SWEET!! So even with a larger T-56 tranny it will not throw off that wounderful weight ballence that made the 240 the ultamate sleeper car. Yea the Nissan V8 will still be running great while the chevy is being rebuilt for the seventh time, but if all we wanted great reliability we would just leave the KA in it LOL.

i see your point, but you should check out the nico VH section. its possible to mix and match valvetrain parts from random cars (which was the main issue if im not mistaken). after that, a good cam regrind, high flow headers, larger volume intake manifold and a decent tune should land you at 325 - 350 rwhp and 7500 rpm!. sure, you will be spending some extra cash on the custom headers (some people even talk about customising the stock headers) and intake, but i dont see a problem with that. this is an N/A build aswell, we have already seen 850rwhp turbo vh41's with stock heads.

Guy on Zilvia has one running in his S14. Auto tranny though. You can get VH's all day on Ebay for less than 1,200 bucks. It's gotta be a sick swap. I would go NA. Check out the Z forum here too, a lot of guys talk about it, but I haven't seen many actually do it. A long time ago Zgringo was a good source, but he left. If you search around, you'll find a 450ZX twin-turbo and some more info.

ugh how can anybody stand an auto VH...some dude on nico was selling adapter kits for the vg30 manual trans for like 600 bucks (group buy at the time)...i guess its not his priority or else he would have researched and made one himself...
