89 chevy diesel truck prime

i just got this 89 chevy 8 cyl 6.2 l diesel truck. but it ran out of fuel becouse the gage does not work well as i figured out. i added feul to it but it does not want to run. any one know how to reprime the pump or who to get it running again.

You have to remove the air from the fuel injection system:

-- loosen the two front-most injectors, driver-side and passenger-side
-- then crank the engine repeatedly (no more than 12-15 seconds each time, waiting at least 5 minutes between crankings or you will burn up your starter) until diesel comes out of the injectors
-- tighten the injectors to spec

Understandably, you need a set of good batteries to do this
