Angry Hit and Run

GRRRRR...

Don't you hate it when you look after your wagon and nobody else seems to care. That's what happened to me. I got back with the fellas from work on Thursday and noticed a smudge on my chrome strip across the front of the truck. No big deal I thought, I'll just wash it when I get home. So I washed the truck and came across the grille and noticed , hang on a second, this was no smudge. This was in fact an impact and my grille is cracked, and the bumper is pushed down, and oh yeah the headlight assembly is loose... Weird that there were no other markings to suggest a heavy impact.

Anyways, long story short I phoned the insurance company and I have to wait a week before anyone can see me. Hope
a) my rates don't go up,
b) they think I'm full of BS and
c) that they can actually see the damage I see....

Anyways here are some pics of my beat up wagon. Please tell me you guys can see something as well as I'm really Picky when it comes to my truck and I hope that they can see that too..

Here is the bumper now almost 2 inches down from the fender where it's only 1 inch down on the passenger side.

Here is the Smudge and crack in my grille.

Here is the headlight when I don't touch it. Looking at the brackets from above.

Now apply a little pressure and it falls forward....

Anyways boys and girls thanks for listening to me rant...

Re: Hit and Run

Hate to see that happen. Sorry, man.

My on your questions:

a) Not sure about Canada, but in the US, some insurance companies raise it for uninsured motorist hits, some give you a free one.
b) Even if they do think you are BSing, they'd probably have to prove you're not, which I've never heard of any of them bothering. They'll probably not hassle you.
c) A blind man could see most of that from close up. The gap difference on the bumper from right to left alone. I know some GM stuff is not always built exactly symmetrical , but that is pretty obviously the result of an impact. Same with the crack in the grill, and the loose headlight.

People suck. The one time I ever hit somebody parked, I left a note, but the 6+ times it's happened to my parked vehicles, NEVER. The time it was such major damage I could not drive the truck (my old truck) I hunted around the neighborhood for witnesses and turned out it was one of my own neighbors. Cops told me he was lucky I found him before they did so he didn't get charged with hit and run.

Again, sorry to hear that. You have a nice truck.

Re: Hit and Run

Hey Thanks,

I've seen somebody get hit before by somebody else in a parking lot and that person never left a note. So, I jotted the plate of the hitter down for the hittee and left it on their windshield once. I can't believe people can be so arrogant. Thanks for your hope my insurance company sees it the same way. I'll keep ya'all posted...

Cheers
Evan

Re: Hit and Run

i feel you pain. my truck was hit july 3. by a illegle alian. no drivers licennes, reguratration of his truck in his "brothers name". no licennes plate. no insurance. the only thing that stoped him from running was he seen me on the front porch. he even denide hitting my truck when i seen it. 2k in damages.

i called the cops thay were nice about the hole deal and messed up the report so bad i almost got a ticket. thay put me down for expired plates. i had the 2007 sticker, and proff of insurance with the dmv. thay showed i had only plates for 2005.

so far there have been 8 recorded hit and runs on my street and its only two blocks long. the second block is a dead end.

we have a guy with a bad back move in so far he has truned in 3 that he seen. there have been fewer illegle drivers come up the street since he started watching. wonder why.

Re: Hit and Run

Sorry to hear about your truck. Same thing almost happened to me two weeks ago. A kid backed into my truck at the driving range and was just going to leave. Luckily I heard it and when I asked what just happened, some people said someone backed up into a blue pickup. Ugh. I ran back in time to catch them before they could pull away. I called the cops and filed a report. I had to get a new bumper since it got bent and so did the brackets underneath (luckily it didn't get pushed into the body). It came to $761, and only $52 of it was labor. I can only imagine how much it must've cost to fix his car (Lincoln Continental) as it looked like he smacked a telephone pole at 20mph.

The kid's grandpa was the one who told him it was ok to leave and he owns a few Napa auto parts store in the area. The car that hit my truck was one of his company cars. Needless to say, that's one parts store that won't ever get any of my money again.

Re: Hit and Run

The thing I can't figure out is how people can be so ignorant. Own up, don't worry about it that's what we pay insurance for.... Oh well. I go in next Tuesday and I'll let yah all know what unfolds as far as repairs go...

Re: Hit and Run

Wow man. Bad luck there. Sorry bout your grille and the light bracket especially. I know those can be pricey. I've bought my share of them from hitting deer.

Wholly smokes! Can you Slalom around them??? That's crazy. We see them from time to time around here but, they seem to be pretty car SAVY. IE: See a car panic and run straight for it... I mean away from it....

funny you should say your in the city. I live just a few blocks from main street in town. most of the time every one here is on the highway going to work not many jobs around. big state park to the south of us and a navy bace to the north. both have lots of free space for deer to run.

I had a gal at walmart let a cart go and it hit my truck. she turned realy a nice shade of red when i poped up in the seat and truned around to see what hit my truck. I was fixing the cb radio at the time. never seen some one leave the parking lot so fast. other than when some one did a hit and run on my motorcycle.
