oil pressure problem 97 f150

for the first 5 minutes or so my prussure seems to be fine until i stop then the oil pressure begins to drop eventually showing no pressure then giving 'ticking' noise if i put in nuetral the pressure comes back up only in drive or reverse is when i have the problema few peolpe i have asked seem to think it is the oil pump so, i purchased a new pump i want to be sure that is the problem before i replace it

Generally it's a pump or the main bearings. I would replace the pump, and if it still has a low oil pressure condition, you probably have a base engine concern. Also, have you put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine, I don't know how many engine technicans I've seen tear down engines only to find that the low oil light is being kicked on by a faulty sensor.

Try putting lucas oil in with your oil after a change, On our race car the oil pressure will drop after a main event to like 20 pounds, then we added the lucas and now the pressure stays at around 60 pounds
