Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

My 2000 K1500 has developed a problem with the turn signals. It seems that the clicker clicks all of the time. I did a search and came up with replacing the multi-function switch. Is this difficult...can someone please tell me how to do it?
Thanks,
Sonny01

Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

Is it doing it all the time or just when you use the turn signal? I had another car of mine that did it when I used the turn signal and it was because the light bulb on one of the sides was out, you might want to check them and see if they are lighting up when you use your turn signals.

I don't even have to use the turn signal...it just starts clicking all by itself. The bulbs are OK.

Well, I got it off of the column but how do you unplug the wires...do you have to un-do the bolt in the middle of the wiring block...also has anyone taken one of these apart to clean out and replace the grease?

Exclamation Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

Yeah, I know that this is an old thread and I apologize for that, but I needed to revisit it. As my mother would say, "if it's not one thing, it's another"!
In my endless pursuit of trying to keep my 8 year old truck and my wife's 12 year old Jeep running, I am having to occasionally fix something.

So, to my story. Earlier today, while making a turn with my blinker on (imagine that, actually using my blinker!), I noticed it making a sound without it being on. Since I spend a good amount of time here reading things from all of you know-it-alls out there (I mean that in a good way), I came to the conclusion that it was probably the multi function switch that has crapped out. What I am wondering is how difficult it is to replace this and what are the steps to doing it. I called my friend at the dealership and it will cost me around $340 to replace it (parts and labor). Anyway, thoughts and hints would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Matt

Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

I bought a used replacement off eBay and got it for I think it was $45. The hard part I had was in using both a Chiltons and a Haynes manual...both use the same picture and both tell you the wrong bolts to remove. It's not hard to do and the wiring block has a bolt thru it so you have to remove that also...it's on the firewall near above your left foot. The tricky part is there are several wires that don't go to the wiring block but if I can figure them out...anybody can :-)

Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

I was looking at the Chiltons and did not get a real feel for what to do. It shows the steering wheel removed, but is this necessary? Are the screws holding the switch to the column easily accessible with the steering wheel on? Also, the cover on the steering wheel seems to be held by a small star-head bolt near the ignition, how did you remove that and then get the bottom cover over the tilt handle?

I also checked out ebay and there are new AC Delco's on there for about $140. I don't understand how that could be with the dealer giving me a discounted price of $270!!

Thanks for the information!!

Sincerely,
Matt

Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

My Switch Lacks The Hazard Function: It Just Won't Come Up. I Have Tried To Remove The Covers To Get To The Whole Multifunction Assembly, But Have Not Gotten Past This., Can Anyone Help?

In Any Case Ebay Has New Switches For About $85 (plus S&h), Which I Think Is Expensive, But I Have Never Seen Used Ones, Anyone?

Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

Sorry for the delay...do not take the steering wheel off...it's removed so the camera could take a shot of the switch and they messed up the labeling. I think most if not all of the bolts are small Torx bolts. The bolts in the picture hold the multi-function switch together...the bolts you want hold the switch to the column. My switch got so bad smoke came out of it. It's not really a hard job...the wire to the right side was a little tricky but doable.

Re: Turn Signal Constantly Clicks

Looks like I have a similar issue. My wife has a 96 C2500 that the flasher kept clicking all last year. Also had a slight buzzing sound. Well this spring the signals don't work at all but the clicking is gone, LOL. On a side note, on these trucks, the fuel pump should start making noise as soon as the key is turned (not started) right? Truck doesn't start, but cranks no problem. Changed the fuel filter but to no avail. Last year it had a bit of a stutter at freeways speeds which was getting worse. Haven't driven it all winter.
