Would Octane rating of 90 be okay?

My V6 CAMRY requires 91 octane gas. In my area I can only get 87, 90 or 93. Do you think I will have a performance loss if I use 90 or should I stick with the 93 which I am currently using?

Go ahead and try the 90. If your motor starts pinging then go to a higher octane.

You can always mix the 90 and 93 octane. That's what I used to do years ago with my MG Midget (then again, it used 100 octane, leaded!)

You can do the math, but about 5 gals of 90 and 2 gals of 93 should give you approx 91 octane.

If the 90 is no good, you will take a hit on your mileage. Try it for a while and compare it to 93 for a while. If you don't notice a mileage difference, stick with the 90.

Brian I was thinking of the same thing. I mean if 90 starts to ping I will be loosing power and of course be decreasing my gas mileage. But I will meaure the MOG for 90 and 93 and report back. I have the tank filled with 93 right now so it will take a little while before I have to refuel but hopefully in a couple of weeks I can figure something out, Thanks everyone

The difference in mileage is not a result of the pinging, but a result of the ignition timing being retarded to prevent pinging. You may not detect pinging since the timing will be automatically retarded to prevent it.
