93 lumina ecm problem???

My 93 lumina 3.1L when getting warm will die, cough and sputter intermittingly. Engine lights flashing, rad fans kick in and out, ac clutch clicking (even when not being used). But all i have to do is turn key to off and it will start right back up depending on how hot it is. Changed lots of sensors including temp. sensor. Would it be safe to say ecm is the problem and if i get one to match does it have to be flashed? Any ideas much appreciated, thanks!!

Re: 93 lumina ecm problem???

First thing I would check is the battery connections. Make sure they are all clean and tight and corrosion free. IF the cables check out, it is highly probable that the ECM is the issue. Since it is mounted under the hood and exposed to the elements, it's more problematic than most others. If the service number on yours is 1227727, that model is especially problematic. The seal between the two halves is junk and allow water in. If you need a new ECM, don't bother with a used one. If you get a reman unit, stay away from the brand Cardone, as they are not very reliable. Stick with AC-Delco or Standard Ignition brands if you can.

Welcome Aboard!

If you have changed lots of sensors, you may have wasted some time and money. You might want to check the injector resistances. Each injector should be about 12.78 ohms or higher, and anything below 10 ohms is a red flag. You can also check each bank at a time, and can expect about 4.1 ohms per bank. Anything lower would require you to test individual injectors on that bank.

It sounds like the injector drivers may be shutting down due to excessive current, then resetting when you power down.
