I have recently purchased a new Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5'8" bed. I am wanting to install a exhaust system on the truck. There is a couple things I am wanting out of an exhaust.

1.) Power gains
2.) Increase in fuel economy
3.) I want something that will not be so loud in the cab that it becomes annoying.

I had duals on a 2003 with 40 series Flowmaster muffler. I lover the sound, but on a long hall, especially after being up all day & night it was just a little much. I could hear it ringing in my head. So I don't want anything that loud.

I am consider the following muffler.
1.)Flowmaster (quieter model than the 40 series)
2.)Borla
3.)Gibson
4.)MagnaFlow

Please let me know what you think of each, and what kind of power gain and fuel economy you experienced.

Also...As you may already know, there are few company's offering a cat back exhaust to fit a crew cab with the shortest bed. I have a friend who works at a muffler shop. What would be the difference in ordering a cat-back system, or just ordering one of the above mufflers and having him bend and weld the pipes & tips.

sorry, I dont have a response for all you power/mileage questions but I will say for something with a little sound and not near the drone of the 40's in the cab..... go with the FM 50 series. I have one on my truck (SI/DO) and is very tolerable inside. I hear more roadnoise from cars passing than resonance from the muffler. Yet, steping outside you can still hear a nice rumble. Nothing to annoy the neighbors.

I use a Borla turbo muffer and there is some rumble not not to bad but my mileage went up and I feel that the engine is more responsive at the higher end.

Cast my vote for the magnaflow. One of the best out there, affordable, and nice deep note at 1/2 to full throttle. I've run Flowmaster, Borla, Magnaflow, and dynomax and I've liked the magnaflow and dynomax the most. Flows are just a bit too raspy for me(with the headers and no cats). Besides....I can uncap my cutouts if I want to be loud.

I voted Borla, since that's what I ran on my truck. I loved the sound. But any of the above will do, anything BESIDES Flowmaster that is.

what are glass packs??? is that a brand???? my neighbor has a 4.3 silverado with glass packs (so he says) i dont like the way it sounds with throttle

For the guy that started the thread, I'd probably put some Dynomax Super Turbos on in this case. They're relatively quiet and they flow well. Sound mean if you get on it hard though. Cats will help keep things hush hush.

Check out the FloPro website. You can listen to sound samples of different vehicles. I have the FP747(3" center/offset), which has a nice throaty, low exhaust note that is pretty loud when you get on it, and quiet when you are cruising down the highway. I opted for this because I tow a camper with the wife and kids. It only cost me a $100 installed. Anyway, just another alternative.
