Exclamation ABS Light, Trac Off and stalling vehicle

Hi guys:

I have a '97 GP wich I bought about a year and a half ago with the Abs light always on and the trac button didn't worked, about two months ago the trac off light started coming on, but pressing the trac button used to get things the way they should, now I cant get rid of that trac light, not even with the trac button. Also the cruise control doesn't works.

6 months ago my trans wrecked I had to take out the whole engine and transmision to replace the whole meshing, once we fix it, the car was running well, but a month after that the car started stalling and the rpm's drop down, the only way to get things back is using the overdrive or slightly pressing and releasing the gas pedal to boost the rpm's.

Finally I would like to know if it's normal to hear a hissing noise (Like those old recorded tapes or an air pressure leak) when the engine is running after some long time.

If you guys need any more details let me know, thanks in advance...

Re: ABS Light, Trac Off and stalling vehicle

The ABS/Trac-off light is most likely a bad hub bearing.

The tach dropping to Zero and the car stalling is a classic CKPS (crank position sensor) problem. Make sure you didn't pinch the wires going to the CKPS or leave them in harms way after taking the engine out. The trac-off light could be related to the CKPS also.

As far as the hissing noise, it sounds like a vacuum leak (possibly an intake or supercharger mount gasket failure or broken vacuum line). To be sure, does the hissing noise change with engine RPM, or does it change with vehicle speed?

I'm having the same problem on a '99. I'll let you know if the CKPS is the issue.

Mucho Gracias!

Hi, thanks for your help, the hissing noise doesn'y changes with the RPM's, It's just right there until i turn off the car.
