96 Sunfire temp gauge moving up and down when driving?

I bought myself a 96 2.2 5 speed Sunfire last week for 500 bucks. Yes it actually runs! It needs some body work on the driver's side down by the rocker panel and an inner tie rod and possibly a tranny mount, but for 500 bucks I think it's worth it. Anyway, I've noticed that when I'm driving it, I can notice the gauge go up and down very slightly, like maybe the width of the needle itself, how much it goes up then down by. When I bought the car, the guy told me he thinks the headgasket is starting to seep, although the coolant level hasn't gone down and the oil hasn't turned muddy brown yet. Since there aren't any numbers on the Sunfire's temp gauge I can't tell exactly how many degrees the temperature rises and falls by, but I'm willing to bet it's not much. What do you think about it? Does anyone have a pic of a Sunfire temp gauge they can put numbers on so I can get an idea how much my temperature rises by?

I agree. Could be the T-stat, or you need to purge/bleed the system of air.
