Running Issues

Every since i bought my Lumina Z34 it hasnt ran 100%. When you tramp it theres no power. To me it sounds like its not running on all six cylinders.
What do you think the problem is. Could it be one of the coils not working
(This car is not on the road yet)

Re: Running Issues

could be, just grab a spark tester, and test all the plug wires while cranking. If you have two that dont spark and both go the same coil pack, its safe to say. Also should maybe replace plugs and wires if you havn't yet and while your there run a quick compression test. Someone on this forum once said that you have to enjoy working on cars to own a 3.4 DOHC. Probably about time to change that timing belt before you crush all your valves.

Re: Running Issues

I took the coils off of my Z34.
I went to the wreckers and got three newer coils
The car is know running like new. It solved the idling problem and the lack of power.

Re: Running Issues

Glad the coils fixed the lack of power issue, but I would change that timing belt like Tblake said if you don't know how long it's been. If the timing belt slips or breaks, you'll mash the valves and your motor is toast. GM doesn't list this engine as an interference motor, but it is.

Re: Running Issues

Make sure you replace both idler pulleys with the belt. The pulleys are plastic and get wobbly, which shovels the belt off into the cover until the belt wears narrow and strips.
