Chrysler recalls 464,315 of 2001/2002 PT Cruisers
DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group has recalled 464,315 of its 2001 and 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser cars, the company said in a statement.
The recall is necessary for the company to install a secondary seal in the fuel pump, which was found to have a leak in government crash tests, the company said.
Chrysler said there have been no complaints about the fuel pump, and described the recall as a precautionary measure. A National Highway Transportation Safety Administration official said recalls are not voluntary when there is a mechanical problem.
The company said that roughly 25% of the PT Cruisers will be recalled for a separate safety issue involving the fuel supply line. The company said a leak could form in the line, as it has been shown to rub against part of the car's air conditioning system.
