Idle Probs

Any ideas ?

My car currently has a problem with idle - it is a Mk2 1998 1.8 Mx5

I have changed the plugs and leads, cleaned out the throttle and throttle housing, had the injectors seals replaced and still it idles iffy.

The problem is basically this, it never idles low enough to stall but just idles up and down slightly in the revs , the rev counter appears to be where it should be at idle but simply quivers a bit while sat still, it is almost like it is not revving enough as a bit of accelerator seems to do the trick . Any ideas what could cause this ?

I have adjusted the base idle to match the ecu idle, the only way i can get a decent idle is to adjust the throttle cable by making it tighter but this is not ideal as it tends then to rev too high.

The car drives sweet over above 1000rpm it just sounds a bit ropey when sat still on idle.

Any suggestions welcome as coming to the end of my tether ?

Re: Idle Probs

It sounds like you need a new Throttle Positioning Switch ( TPS ) There easy and pretty cheap. You may want to check for a vacuum leak.

Re: Idle Probs

It's OBDII. Read code first and check related item show on the manual.
if you tell me what kind code you got, I'll check for you.
