RHD '89 2vz-fe camry speedo joys

Hi,

A couple of quick questions before I end up 'cracking the dash' open again on the aforementioned car.

Problem:

- Speedo is usually rock-steady; though recently has intermittantly started jumping around significantly accompanied occasionally (at the same time) by an audible clicking from somewhere behind the speedo.

Guess as to problem:

- Top section of speedo cable worn/wearing

More problems:

- As car is a RHD I am struggling to get a new replacement part for a reasonable price here in Australia.

Questions for you:

- If I take the gauges out of the dash and remove the speedo cable; is the cable the sort that I can get into to lubricate it? If so, what is the best thing to lubricate it with (eg: silicon grease spray?). I don't fancy dismantling the car twice if I cannot get to the part to do this!
- Does the SV21 i4 engine use the same speedo cable? I can find loads of these in the wreckers; but none of the V6 variants.

Thanks in advance for your input

Matt
