2001 GMC Safari stalls in gearhiliardman1965 07-09-2006, 06:18 PM With in the last weeks my 2001 Safari has started to have a problem. 1st it lost all power after I moved van from my garage to the drive way (about 20 feet) on 06/26/2006. I jumped and it worked until 07/04/2006. Once again it lost all power. Got a jump and made it home. Now it acts as though the battery is drained. But it will start. However, once I place the van in gear to go, it stalls. In park idle appears to works okay. I saw several post for the ERG valve and the smell of gas. A few times after 06/26 I did smell gas, but not now!? If I depress the accelerator very slightly and shift from neutral to drive it usually will go (until the next turn / stop when I let off the gas and do not shift back to neutral).:banghead: Does any one think getting a code reader will help? Or is this sound like a dealer only diagnostic? 07/10/2006, After a few basics I was able to get rid of the the stalling. Either my negative ground was slightly loose or It needed a computer reset (by removing the power). Now back the "drain" .....:frown: About 07/15/2006. The errors returned. The green eye on the battery was lying. Appearently, the battery gauge is actually an alternator meter. Both were lying. Changed the battery and no more problems. It was only giving out about 7-8 volts.:screwy: All is now well in Sunnyville. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
