got a ? about a code

the light came on few times in last 2 weeks, so i finally went to get it scanned. i waited since i can usually temp fix the prob. its usually o2 sensor i guess clogging up or something, i could fix it by spraying some carb cleaner down the tbi and the light wouldnt come back on. forgot what code it was like 21/22 i think. or my egr would set it off, the vacuume hose would slip off somehow?
but not this time. had computer scanned today, came up code 44 oxygen sensor lean exhaust indication.
the guy at advanced auto said might need to change fuel filter. have done that once already this year with tune-up(plugs,wires,cap,rotor,coil,air/oil filter). he said he cant tell for sure since OBD1 doesnt specify causes for the codes, just gives an idea on what it could be. its a stock 305 tbi w/ no mods, other then k&n and 3" cat-back(hopefully soon cat too and maybe add headers)

Re: got a ? about a code

A lean exhaust code can get set when the O2 is carboned up that it can't read the exhaust stream anymore. Might wanna just take it out and check it, probably needs replaced anyway. Other than that you'd have to check the fuel pressure and see if that's the cause.

However, based on your technique of 'fixing" the porblem, tho effective, you said yourself is temporary and the sensor is old and clogged.

its a fairly new o2 sensor, placed it few months before the tune-up since it kept comming on, and effected gas milage to much, milage has been steady since replacing it

Sometimes a 44 means there's something wrong up stream and not
always the O2 like w28 said.....

but if it's original it probly is bad
