Need help with sun damaged paint

So i bought a new car and it had some sun damage nasty faded white crap oxidize? Anway I was told to get some rubbing compound or something like it well I spent the time cleaning the car and taking the compound to it and ive never done this so Im not sure if Im doing it right.

The stuffs coming off with alot of elbow grese but when I get to a area that has none of the paint damage you can see like a line where I took some of the clear coat paint off. You can see its a little higher up. So you can see that the sun damage is coming off in flakes but now where I got the stuff off you can tell I like made it smoother I guess. Im so confused.

Do I just keep brushing this paint off the entire car or if I wax it will it make it blend together? Someone help I got to get this crap off my car and I dnt want to screw up the paint to a bad point. Thanks
