Question Question for switching to synthetic motor oil

Dut to the valvline promotion, I will switich to high milleage synthetic motor oil 10W30 for both my camry 96 2.2L and prizm 1999, my question is: can I just drain and refill with synthetic oil? Or I have to flush the engine or some clean process?

Cool Re: Question for switching to synthetic motor oil

Drain & fill, but I would flush it before hand anyways.
Why would someone want to put descent oil in it when they're tons of junk in there before hand? It'll smoothe the idle some too.

popeye08,

Unless you had "sludge" problems in the past with your engine I'd just go ahead and use the synthetic oil. In my 89' Camry I've never had any such issues with my engine and have use Mobil 1 synthetic with great success. Perhaps if your a perfectionist then of course flush out the engine BUT on the other hand wh yspend money when it's not really necessary.

Thanks for replies, now I am comfortable to just add the synthetic oil.

popeye08,

Don't worry as you should be just fine :-) It'll take a couple of oil changes but doing so will flush the old oil out naturally. You won't feel a thing :-).

You should also note that using synthetic oil will stay cleaner longer than conventional oil. That's what I've noticed.
