03 tribute problems

a friend of mine brough me his 03 tribute today

took a look over it and the rear motor mount is cracked in two seperate pieces... is this a common issue with these??

also, the power brake booster makes a loud as$ hissing noise inside the car, when you press the brake pedal it goes away but as soon as you let it go the hiss comes back, im thinking the booster has a leak in it, is their anything special about it i should know about? it's getting kinda dark but im going to replace the motor mount in the morning and investigate the hiss a little more with sunlight

Re: 03 tribute problems

Wow, was it crashed? My 01 has 69K on it and not those problems. Just drove it 400 miles this weekend. The brake booster, maybe is a check valve leak or something. Check the clearance on the brake pedal pin that pushes on it.

Wow, aside from the major damage issue, try readjusting the brake pedal pin if you can, because the firewall had probably been tweaked causing the check valve to leak vaccum (the hissing noise).

Best regards,

Re: 03 tribute problems

tributes have had a problem with boosters leaking over the years.

most commonly the brake m/c or m/c cap was leaking down causing the booster to rust but that was very obvious. if a little brake clean spray around the booster with the car running makes the engine studder you're looking at a definate external booster leak. other than that the diaphram inside may be seeping causeing a hiss...

either way you're probably looking at a booster. not too bad to do on these things.
