Re: 1987 camry dies after warming up
Check the ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor with a DVM and the specs from any manual. It may have gone out of spec and is sending a signal to the computer that the engine is always cold, when it is not. That would produce a very rich mixture all the time. This rich mixture is needed to start and run a cold engine, but could flood out and stall a warm engine.
Also check the coil inside the distributor, again with the DVM and the specs from the manual. They have a tendancy to be a troublesome area on this generation Camry. They develope a hairline crack and short themselves to ground inside the distributor. This type of problem is generally worse in damp weather, but can cause problems in any type of weather.
A third possibility is a weak fuel pump. Your technician can put a gage on the fuel rail and check fuel pressure. Weak fuel pumps have a tendancy to go out as they get warm.
Good luck.
