Racing question

I've heard of frame problems with T-tops over hard tops but what's the general rule with targa top corvettes? I'm focusing on 91-96. What will torque do to a vette with a targa top and is that different with a hard top?

Re: Racing question

A friend of mine has a rag-top C4. We found extra frame stiffeners on his car that my non convertable C4 doesn't.
Wheather it's old '60s Camaros and Impalas or newer model Corvettes, G.M. has always made suttle changes to convertable frames to make them stiffer.
I can't say they did that for the '80s Camaros. I've seen many t-top Camaros/IROCs that have cracks in the roof where the door pillar connects. You've got me on that one.

Re: Racing question

I will preface this by saying that i don't know this as fact and could be wrong, but i'm more than a little familiar with c4's and thier history and as far as I know, the only true "hardtop" c4 corvette's were actually convertibles with the top down and a "hardop" on.

And to answer the reason behind your question, you have nothing to worry about as far as torque messing up your targa top. I don't know how familiar you are with c4 corvette's but the frame in a c4 in MUCH bigger and stronger than any camaro or firebird. I'm not all that familiar with the year model of the camaro in your signature, but i know that the mid 90 f-body camaro's and firebirds were very prone to body flexing due to weak frames, but i've seen 600-800hp c4 corvettes with literally no extra frame stiffining and there was no body flexing at all. Some of the targa tops are glass and some are fiberglass, but either way, the frame around them is very strong, and when you bolt it onto your corvette it will effectively stiffin the car almost as well as a hardtop.

I hope this helps!
