o2 sensorsdnkygirl 08-05-2002, 05:51 PM Question.. i was driving around yesterday and it was about 96 97 degrees.. it was hot. i noticed that my temp gauge was a little bit higher than it ususally is. I was a little concerned because it seemed like the faster i went the high the guage rose. Well i got to my destination.. and it sat for about an hour. Got back on the freeway and it was normal again.. i know it might be time for new o2 sensors.. does this sound about right? Everything else is in tip top shape. new air filter.. fluids are fine. I not to long ago had the termostat changed when i lost my water pump.. .so it can't be that... it was just really hot.... what can i do to help my baby hang with the high temps? dnkygirl ItsAGirlThang 08-28-2002, 02:05 PM My o2 was bad in my probe and nothing like that would happen. The check engine light would just come on when I held steady RPMs. When your car does that and your driving a steady speed on the high way to help keep her cool a good tip is to make sure its not TOO hot out side and put all your windows down and turn your heat on. Doing this will make your car cool down but I cant say much for you... Hope I was to any help... Jessica  mattzneon 08-28-2002, 02:30 PM Okay... Lets get somethin' straight... Its not a girl thing! Nah, just kiddin'. It could be tho. :( Onto the subject... She is right... Pop that heater on and ya engine will run somewhat cooler. But how would you like to say you drive the streets of Dallas, TX with your heater on in mid summer? Knaw mean? Well I dont see an O2 sensor being a problem. Pop the hood and see if your fans are running... Also make sure your coolant is flowing. If you have a blockage in there somewhere, your temp may rise up some... Pending on how much of a blockage there is. ItzaNeonThing... Matt dnkygirl 08-28-2002, 05:48 PM Thanks !!! but are you guys crazy or what? Drive around Dallas in the middle of summer with the heat on.. are yawl tryin to kell me or what? I think it was a blockage.. i filled the coolant tank with more antifreeze and it's been fine since then.. and it's been roasting hot around here... for real!!!! I'm going to keep my eye on it.. i'm hoping it's not the water pump trippin again.. i lost it last year that was expensive to fix. Thank you thou...!!! dnkygirl oh and M'Dawg it is a girl thang.. i thought you knew... mattzneon 08-28-2002, 05:54 PM Told ya... Oh, and sometymez it is a gyrl thing... Ya know, I'ma ladiez man, I'ma give my respect to the honiez with their neonz. ;) M.Dawg KatWoman 08-29-2002, 01:28 PM Dnky, you could possibly have a clogged radiator. That happened to me a few months ago. Replaced the hoses, tstat, and cap. The shop did a test and determined I had no flow going to the radiator. Also check your coolant. You should have a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. If you have too much coolant, your cooling system will not work as effectively. If you have too much water, it could rust out your cooling system. Another possibility is your temperature sensor could be going. I have never heard of a bad O2 sensor causing overheating, when those go, they affect your fuel economy/emissions, but not your temps. mattzneon 08-29-2002, 04:08 PM Agreez with Katladie... Normally I dont do a 50/50 mix, but thats just because I'm too lazy to dump all the fluid and mix correctly, but she's right, too much water isn't great for your car, and too much antifreeze wont cool it down enough. R'member water cools your engine, antifreeze just keeps the water at bars. I'm thinking a radiator. The 95-99 Neon radiator is a relatively easy one to remove. Its pretty small and cheap. But you can run yours down to a shop and have some acid ran through it... Somebody can clean it up and unclog it. Matt dnkygirl 08-29-2002, 09:30 PM Hey thanks Kat i think it was a poor mix. I added more 50/50 and it's not heating up anymore. I've been driving around like crazy just to see if the problem will happen again. I am going to have it checked this weekend along with my ac... it's time... for a checkup.. dnkygirl Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
