Question NO Reverse

I have a 1991 Grand AM LE with a 2.5 4-Tech. Yes it says 4-Tech instead of Quad 4. The problem is with the transmission. It was slow going into reverse, but after not driving it for a week, it won't go into reverse at all. It has 245K miles on it and everything else works perfect. It still drives perfect FORWARD. I just have to be careful where I park. Any Ideas???

Re: NO Reverse

If the fluid is full, the trans is going to have to come out, internal issue here.

Re: NO Reverse

I was afraid that would be the case. I don't have but $150 in the car and don't know if it would be worth fixing it. Everything else works fine and it looks good. Any possibility of a used one or would you go for a rebuild?

Taking a chance with a used one, overhauls on those transmissions are not that expensive, get some prices.

Re: NO Reverse

The problem here is does the unit have to come out or can it be done (repaired) on the lift. No reverse would say to me that something broke internal so coming out would probably be the case and with the milage -who knows what else. Take it to a tranny place or 3 and let them give U their opinion --its free and you'll have at least some answers. Don't just go to 1 shop!!!!!!!!!!! and do watch where and how U park it. Walkings good for ya --and pushing it back to many times will piss ya off.So choose wisely.

Re: NO Reverse

i agree, have it checked out and have them look at the linkages, your linkage might be bad
