Sorry a few more auto ??

If I drain the transmission hot, is it safe to say that refilling should yield 4 qts exactly?

Thanks!

Re: Sorry a few more auto ??

Say one was able to get 4 qts in, is there any harm in that? It's just so much easier with an actual even amount, as I'm guessing it's obviously more then 3 3/4 qts - but less then 4??

Re: Sorry a few more auto ??

I would only fill until it starts running out. I can't give an exact amount, because it starts running out, then I reposition the hose from the hand pump to see if I can get a little more in, and more dribbles out, then I try to get the fill plug in quickly... Inexact science as far as that goes. You should have seen how much ATF got on the mechanic I watched do this while it was on a lift!

Re: Sorry a few more auto ??

If you buy a four litre or four quart container of dextron 3 plus 1 quart lucas transmission additive you should have a 3/4 of a quart left. Since lucas transmission additive is so thick it is good to pre-mix the additive with the dextron 3 then put it in your garden sprayer. Some here will use less fluid but I find you lose some oil due to spillage. Put a large plastic sheet under the car plus some newspapers to soak up the spillage. Even better if you can change the fluid safely on the street so you don't stain your driveway. If you have too much traffic play it safe.

So you're able to get almost 4 1/4 qts in the tranny?
