i hope that someone here can help me. I have had this weird growling or moaning noise coming from my 99 windstar for some time now. It does not make the noise all the time. It starts about 15 after the van starts running, growls for just a second or two, then quits. About 5 minutes later, it does it again. Any advice. I'm clueless.

Can you try and narrow down the source a bit?

I have heard a moaning sound from an alternator that was dying but it would be premature to suggest that at this time. The other thought is the air compressor but again you will need to narrow down the source of the noise.
