There is an axle shaft seal on the side where the axle shaft enters the transmission. It will leak just like a main seal if it is bad. Change it and the leak should go away.

Re: 98 Grand am Tranny leaking

Is this something that can be changed without pulling the tranny?

Yes, remove the axle shaft and replace the seal. You will need to pull the front wheel and remove the axle nut. You may also need to remove the strut to give you enough clearance and to drop the front wheel out of the way. Once you get the shaft out pull the old seal and replace it with a new one. Use a seal puller and a seal installer to make sure you don't damage the new seal.
