Smile my camry not too good on bumps

hi people i have an 84 camry and it does not sound good when i hit speed bumps or drive on a bumpy road. what are some of the parts i can replace to make everything better. i recently had to replace the front left strut mount because it broke off somehow. i replaced it with a cheap aftermarket one from autozone because i needed it fixed asap. if someone can help me i will appreciate it thanks.

Re: my camry not too good on bumps

Its always good to replace both front shocks/struts at the same time so the car has an even balance and the shocks can absorb most of the bumps, but not all. You replaced the one when it was needed. Replace the other. Bad bumps are usually suspension related.

Your car uses rear springs. Usually ok for the life of the car, however they can be upgraded if they are extremely worn if there is an aftermarket for it. Not really in the scope for a home mechanic unless you have a spring compressor (which isnt cheap and can be a dangerous tool without experience) and an air gun. I am not sure if there are aftermarket springs for this vehicle.

Re: my camry not too good on bumps

the mileage is not stated but i bet its high. Sounds like you need to replace the front end parts, the ball joints and idlers etc. You can do it yourself, with a lot of sweat, and save a lot on the labor. And you will want to get the front end aligned after; so its better to change everything at once, if you can.
If you cant do the whole thing right now, just replace the worst parts, and the lower ball joints are the fastest wearing because they carry the greatest load.

Re: my camry not too good on bumps

I would suggest to replace the sway bar bushings (both front and rear) first. It's the cheapest and easiest way to improve the ride by far.
