Ranger questions

In a few months i will have to buy a new vehicle for myself. I currently drive a 1999 GMC Jimmy and i love it and would buy another but i want a pick up next. So my question is if i considered buying a ranger is there certain years to stay away from? With the v6 are there lots of common problems that occur frequently? What is the average fuel economy for a mix of city and highway driving? When the time comes i will probably be choosing from a Chevy ZR2 s-10 or a Ranger. I will be using it to drive to and from school and some off roading as well so i am not sure how the ranger does in these so i seek your knowledge. Thanks for your help.

Re: Ranger questions

If you get a 4x4, go with a 95 or newer

Re: Ranger questions

I've had an 83, 94 and now 1999 Ranger. Found them to be comparable with most other P/Us including foreign. You have many more choices seeing that you are buying a new one. I continued to buy Rangers not that they are any better than Dodge, Chevys or Toyotas, rather because I am familiar with the Ford systems. If you're comfortable with the Chevys, stay with it. You'll find out that after you buy the vehicle, then you'd wish you bought something different.

Re: Ranger questions

I think Rangers and S10's put a good engine in their trucks, In my experience the chevys seem to have more problems with hardware being junky little things breaking for no reason. cheaper interiors

Re: Ranger questions

most complain the 3.0 are anemic. but if you get one and it is newer then 95 replace the camshaft position sensor as fast as possible when it fails the oil quits pumping and few are the ranger owners that noticed before it was tooo late.
