Re: Dragging Noise

you front air dam broken ?

Or any other plastic in front?

At speed things like that can move around quite a lot.
Might check the front struts, they hav that plastic boot over them, it can get outa wack and might rub the tires

You always hav some crazy noises dont you ??
You had the rear end clunk a while back, right?

Hope this helps.

Re: Dragging Noise

when i looked last night i didnt see anything, i checked it out when i was at canadian tire and its the plactic piece that covers the underside of the front, the air dam is fine, that covers has been broken for a while and i guess last night when i was racing i must have broken it more from the speed of my car and the wind going under neath, but Damn imagine going 110k and then all of a sudden hering this loud sraping and grinding noise, my heart just sank, anyways i want to take that whole piece off what is the real purpose of it i know it is to protect the underside of the front end but what could happen if i take it right off...?

Thanks...

Re: Dragging Noise

ya they brake off easy, cheap plastic ..
You dont really need it but, I removed mine on my SE, and the coolant temps ran about 3-4 deg hotter .
So I made an aluminum one, painted it black, screw it up there and temps came back to norm

Re: Dragging Noise

I had a thin sheet of aluminum.
You Just need to measure the length and hight, then add 1"- 1.5" , so you'll hav a piece to bolt/screw to the bottom plastic.
Bend over the short part, like an L , then measure for evenly spaced screw holes, and drill'em.
5-6 would be suficant, just put one at each end, and in the middle, etc etc.
Then use real short screws with a larger head, so it holds it tight, if they are to Long they might puncture the radiator.

I hav a pick of mine........ its at cardomain.
heres the Link

guess you cant see it to well.
If you need/want some measurements I've got those .

Re: Dragging Noise

Youre welcome!

Even sheet metal(steal) would work. I just had aluminum handy.
You would need to prime and paint it well, so it doesnt rust and look like crap.

the demensions are 34" x 4', and I did Not make an "L " shaped piece to bolt it on.
I forgot, I just screwed it straight in front through the plastic. The 4"'s line up with the corner curved pieces to, so it look natural

heres another pic of the screws close-up

Re: Dragging Noise

Xero, is that piece the plastic splash guard you have to remove to do a oil filter change? My son in his infinite wisdom decided to go to Lube n Go for the oil/filter change a few months ago. The tech did not properly insert the prongs into the subframe correctly. So it wound up dangling and the plastic wore away from hitting the street. I put a replacement on about two months ago. It cost $19.00 plus tax at the GM dealer without the two wing bolts.

The design is not exactly an engineering marvel.

Re: Dragging Noise

what is that plasteic piece called any ways part number or somthing, i wouldnt mind putting an aluminum one on but then putting the plastic one one over top, theres probably no reason to it that way, but i want to see how much it would cost for me to replace the plastic piece.

Called Shield, Lower, GM PN: 22599670, list price $18.74.

The same part is used on a Grand AM, Alero, or Malibu so shop around at those respective GM dealers for the best price.

But I know what you talking about, that part that cuts the shit outa your arm when you change the oil the shield!

I do like that piece, it keeps road debrei from geting all over the motor and starter.
...... I hate a dirty motor

I never remove it, most of the time the wing nuts wont come loose or break

Which part waas you talking about Kidlex01?
The air damn, or the splash shield?

you all confused now???
