2 wheel drive to 4?
Someone was telling me that I can switch my 2 wheel drive truck to 4 wheel drive. How much would this cost? I have an 84 3/4 ton automatic. I was just curious. Thanks for any feedback.

RE 2 TO 4
It would be cheaper and easier to just buy a four wheel drive.
You will need a front axle with the same gear ratio as your current rear axle. A transfer case there is just to much to list. And not to mention all of the geometry problems you will be dealing with after the switch.
A guy had the same question on Trucks! last week and they basically said the same thing.

its actually very simple all you need is the front axle (same gears) , a transmission with a t case already its eaiser that way, front springs, perches, shackle hangers, shortened rear driveline, front driveline, a welder and a cutting torch. its pretty easy i did it when i was 17

You must be talking about a much older truck. You dont just buy a front axle...end of story. You got torstion bars,cv joint spindles, independant axles, electronic transfer acuator w/ transfer control module, transfer switching, VCM control, then you got all the other hardware you listed. It's like Shortbus said "it's too much to list or deal with.

I agree, go to the junk yard and see if you can find one that close to your current truck.
Take the old truck from the junk yard- remove all the bad parts and replace with parts from your 2x4.
The only thing OEM on my Jeep is the body. Everything else is from different vehicles.
1. Chevy Engine 350 - Corvette
2. T-18A tranmission - F350 Ford
3. Dana 60 - Junk yard, Have no idea where they came from
Remember a real 4x4 is built not bought.
I get paid $200.00 a pop to pull drug store 4x4 out of the mud.
