92 Neon will not go in reverse

I recently bought a manual 92 Neon. The reverse worked just fine before i bought it, however after a day or 2 of driving it quit. Its a 5 speed.

The neon came out in 95, so you don't have a 92. Check your shifter cables.

What about bushings and/or retaining clips?

Re: 92 Neon will not go in reverse

The shift cables connect to the transmission with O-shaped plastic rings. There are rubber bushings that bridge the gap between the plastic of the rings and the metal of the transmission. By now your bushings are probably gone because I have a 95, too, and mine are gone. The only way I could get my car in reverse without the bushings is by pushing the clutch in all the way and slowly putting the car into reverse--and I would still hear a little grinding.

Dodge will probably sell you new bushings. I'm going to contact Dodge once I get my transmission back in the car so I can get nice, new bushings.

If you don't want to spend the money you can always surround the metal parts of the transmission that connect to the shift levers with duct tape or something--I don't know.

Get some booger bushings from http://www.boogerracing.com/ . They are cheaper than the dealer and SO MUCH BETTER. You can also pick your color of boogers

ok-just curious gentlemen-can bushing that are starting to go bad cause a Neons tranny to momentarily stall between some or all gears?

If they are worn, they won't allow the cables to their jobs correctly. If the cable can't work correctly, the tranny may not be able to shift correctly.
