MAIN REQD light, new 2006 tacoma

Hi All, in addition to the "check engine light" it looks like we also now have a "MAIN REQD" light, since it just turned 5 K miles, it must be that, I did the maintenance myself which was basically changing the oil, now is there a way to clear that light? The saleman told me when I bought the truck, that there is very little maintence required for the first 100K miles, most of which you can do your self, although I think he's really not supposed to tell me that. I also tried to clear it with an OBD 2 code reader with no success, all it did was tell me everyting is fine on the truck.

disconnect the battery for a few minutes, that should clear the codes and reset the OBD2 stuff

Re: MAIN REQD light, new 2006 tacoma

Thanks, I should have said I tried that already, it worked great on my '96 tacoma, but not on the newer stuff, I'm going to call the dealer and ask whats up with it in the morning, hopefully I'll get a straight, no non sense answer.

RE: the "MAINT REQD" light

I called the dealer this morning from my office, they were cool and explained its in the owners manual how to reset that, they also said if I call while inside the vehicle they would walk me through resetting it, Its nice to get a straight answer!

MAINT REQD light, how to reset

I called the dealer this morning, after spending 15 minutes thumbing through and reading the manual, I found no reference to how to turn it off as they said it was there. It maybe hidden somewhere in the appendix, but they don't make it easy. Anyway I learned from calling them to hold down the odometer buttom with the key in the off position, it will show something like "ODO 6401" that is just the mileage. Now turn the key to the on position when the lights on the dash come on holding downing buttom the entire time, you will see a series of blinking dashes and then go away, bam its reset back, it will come on every 5K miles to remind you for an oil change, this is oil for cars sold in the USA

Thanks. This also works on my new 2006 Toyota Camry SE-V6. Wife wife noticed the Main Reqd (Maintenance Required) light had come on in the past couple of weeks. I just went over 5000 miles. Holding down the odometer reset button while turning the ignition on made it turn off. (Now it's time for my second oil change).
